Chimney liner in a recently built house?

    Hi,
I recently bought a house which was built in 2007, it currently has an electric fire but want to remove it an install a woodburning stove instead.

If I pull out the electric fire, the fireplace is cast concrete with a round opening at the top which connected to clay tubes which run to the top of the chimney.

When I visited a stove shop, the salesperson told me It is recommended to install a flue liner (at a cost of €800, including the stove installation).

The following week I got a builder (who I found through a chimney repair website) and he took a look and told me it was not necessary (saying the shop salesperson was being lazy for not inspecting the chimney).

He seemed to suggest that because it was a recent build (just 7 years old) and the flue was a narrow diameter, a flue liner was not required.

The chimney runs down the centre of my house (which is semi-detached). The neighbour already has open fires (without a stove) and I dont believe she uses a flue.

I am torn because I really cannot afford €800 if not required, but I am aware of some of the risks if a chimney causes problems.

    Please advise.

€800 seems very expensive for flexi flue but I guess it depends on the size, 5" or 6" and what length you need. I spent around €360 on 5" flexi liner(about 6mtrs), flexi/solid pipe adapter, 90degree bend, 250mm solid pipe and 5" cowl last year. Probably need to allow for two or three bags of Vermiculite fill for around the liner too.
Where did you price the items? I found the local hardware to be cheaper than anywhere else.
