Hi folks, I completed my Category C Rigid Truck Test back in May of this year.

I am intending to go now for Category D Coach/Bus Test, probably at the start of 2015.

Can anyone advise what to expect in terms of the test? Are there similarities or indeed differences between the Cat C and Cat D tests? Thanks!

If we're talking the practical part then they're pretty much the same from my experience of both.

When you're asked to pull up by the kerb, you should try and get the doorstep as near to the kerb as possible without mounting it. You'll be marked down if you are too far away as this will be seen as creating an inconvenience to passengers who might be boarding or disembarking.

I'd also say that you should try and drive as if the bus were full of passengers. I had no experience of driving a laden bus so I was probably guilty of horsing her around a bit too much on corners - so watch for that. Smoothness of ride is a big thing with the bus test, certainly more so than the truck.
