    Hi,
I'm living in Scotland and was stopped by police yesteray (for having my front fog lamps on when visibility was greater than 100m - £50 fine!)

Anyway I coudln't find my Irish licence. Does anybody know if a letter of entitlement (http://www.ndls.ie/en/Driving-Licence/driving-abroad.html#DriverStatement) is accpeted instead of an Irish licence in order to get a UK licence?

Also are irish licences handed out instantly now? As in if i got the form signed by guards and went in when in to get one when i went home would I walk out with the licence in my hand?

I'm home at the end of the month but need to show my licence within 7 days....so trying to figure out what options I have!

    Thanks,
    Chris

If you are normally resident in the UK then you need to contact the DVLA:
    http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/vehicles/driving/loss/index_en.htm

I'd say the best route would be to apply in the UK and then inform the police of the situation rather than try to get one in Ireland which the UK Authorities will not have any communication with.

Balls of a situation though :(

I hope this doesn't turn into a feckin foglight thread :D

Haha yeah but I need an Irish Licence to apply for a UK one....as i've to surrencder it to get it. SO i'm hoping that the letter of endorsement works......It's a messy situation! thanks for that like though as I can use this in my argument with the DVLA!

Fined for fog lights on? Nice one.

We could do with a few Scottish Gardai.

    I love this one ;)

    Unfortunately not.
You will need to wait few weeks.

Just tell them it's lost, and you can bring it once they issue replacement.

Don't want to divert the thread but I can't say i've ever noticed anybody else's fog lights impeeding my vision, obviously does by the reaction here!
So looks like I've learned a lesson! A quote like "You are fairly unlucky as this is one of my pet hates, most cops would let it go" didn't offer much consolation!

Yeah that letter will be enough to get a UK licence once I have reported the licence as missing to the police here, so I assume that this should be enough to prove I have a licence and tick the box that I've shown it.
They email the letter, but it takes 2-3 days!?

At least then I won't need to worry about loosing it as had i been in the system here they don't even ask to see it, I came up as having no licence when they put my name in.

Bit less stressed now anyway that I know what i'm at!
