This chimes with what I heard from a BMW UK dealer a few months ago. There are also long waiting lists in the UK for other new models, such as the 4 series and the new X5.

Arguably, the delivery lead-times in the UK have been increased by the focus on producing more cars for China and the US.

Audi and Mercedes have made the same global production allocation decisions.

I saw a 142 i8 in firehouse the other morning. Gorgeous car. Does anyone know if there are many in Ireland?

    From http://50to70.com/index.php/2014/05/01/bmw-i8-set-irish-launch/:
"The BMW i8 will be officially launched in Ireland in July with a starting price of €136,430 which includes the €5,000 SEAI grant and €2,500 VRT relief applicable to private sales of hybrid electric vehicles. Ireland’s sole BMW i agent is Joe Duffy BMW in Dublin."

I imagine that there's at least one i3 demo car and one i8 demo car at Joe Duffy BMW.
