Does anyone know of any changes made with today's budget with respect to the forestry or is it as expected 15 years not 20 and open to all for planting not just the farmer

    So far:
    Forestry Budget 2014 - € 110 Million

The Forestry sector receives the largest share of the public capital programme expenditure of the Department and the Minister has again provided some €110 million for this purpose in 2015.

The Minister of State welcomed the funding for the forestry programme, which encompasses the provision of grants for the establishment of new forestry (afforestation) programme and forest road scheme. This level of funding will allow for an afforestation programme of 7,000 hectares in 2015 and some 120 kilometres of forest roads.
    Forestry Budget 2013 – Over €105 million

Approximately €105 million has been allocated to the forestry sector, which is more than half of the Department’s capital allocation and is enough to maintain the 7,000 hectares of new planting which is consistent with the previous two years. Funding for this sector is also unique in that it is entirely funded by the exchequer.

    from here:

Main proposals in New Forestry Programme 2014 – 2020, (public consultation closed 13th October 2014 and plan now on way to EU, with launch of program 1st Jan 2015)

Premium Rates (same rates for farmer and non farmer) Duration (years) 15

    nothing to suggest a change

Has the duration for farmers come down from 20 years? I don't mean from this budget specifically.

Wondering that too, we were thinking of planting some of Dads land (was a hard job sell it to him). If it's 5 years less money I think the idea will be sunk. It's SAC land.

Not 100% sure but I think it's the same total amount of money, but paid out quicker, premiums per yr are higher iykwim

(if my figures are correct, I am not a forester)

    Currently

    325374.jpg
Farmer Oak 20 years total €10,300
    non-Farmer Oak 15 years total €2,925

Proposed to EU for Jan 2015

(If "year on year" increase means what I think it does, a compound % increase)

Edit Late night clerical error lol Year on year dosnt mean what I think it does

oldtree thats a good calculation so ur saying that someone that puts over 8ha of oak tree gains 6000 more euro per ha over 15yrs than someone who put 8ha last yr for 20yrs, dont think the forest service are that generous, more like there are increasing premium to 560 per ha from 515 per ha for the fifteen yrs and maybe the difference in the yearly premium will be increased by 9% pro rata

OT how did you get 11652 for the <8ha oak? Does this include planting grant?

as i said in previous post i reckon it the new increase in premium that get increased year on year so say i put 9ha in oak next year i get 5040 euro in 2015, in 2016 i get 5493.64 in 2017 i get 5988.11, goes up pro rata until year 15. that my take on it anyway so you will be losing a lot on premiums by losing 5yrs on standard premiums.no govt dept is goin to make you wealthy.like you oldtree i like a foresters view on it as im not one but have forestry planted good few yrs ,my figures mite be slightly out but you get my gist

I just presumed they were stating what the increase (rounded up) in the annual premium was from old scheme to new scheme, as a way of selling it - conveniently avoiding aggregate calculations over 15 yrs versus 20. Which is where we lose out :(
