Suggestions for making design better?

I'm planning my 12th tattoo, it will be on my upper arm. It's my first tattoo in memory of somebody and I'm going to do it differently than a lot of memorial tattoos as I want the tattoo to be of the things he loved and not about him passing away. I know that in it I want a bottle of Jameson whiskey, a rolled up cigarette or ashtray, a betting slip and either a purple and yellow rose or just a yellow rose. Although I know what I want in it I have no idea about how to put it all together, any suggestions? I know my artist will have suggestions but I'd like to think about it more before going to her.

When I read your post, I originally pictured something like this:

Obviously you'd need a betting slip and rose, the betting slip could fit bottom right, and the rose lying across between the bottle and ashtray (Obviously changing the bottle to Jameson). Or you could be different and lay the rose across the ashtray, and perhaps the betting slip crumpled up in the tray too? Another idea would be have the glass a Jameson Glass so you dont need to show the bottle of Jameson, might save space if its for your arm. What if you had the rose growing or standing in the glass of whiskey, as some sort of symbol showing his memory is living on?

Oh I really like the last link you sent on, I think I might get something like that with the begging slip on it too maybe between the ash tray and the glass
