I in the market for a 50cc saw the budget is €1000, iv been looking at the Sthil ms261 or the husqvarna 560xp.

I thought id ask here for some feedback on anyone who owns anyone of these saws, im aware that the 560 is 59cc but giving the price between the 261 and the 560xp which isnt much am I better to spring for the 560xp?

I reckon both the 550 and 560 are way ahead of the ms261 in terms of ergonomics, which means alot if you plan to use the saw often. A good pal of mine went for the 261 and I went for a 550. I find the 261 is a bit heavier and bulkier.

What size bar were you running on both saws?

15" on the husq and I think it's an 18" he has on his stihl

The 560 is more in line with the stihl 362c-m. The 550xp is in the same bracket as the 261. If it were me it be the 550xp. It wins in every aspect of performance, weight, balance, acceleration, so much more nimble also. The only thing the 261 might have on it is torque if primarily ringing up loads of timber or the likes but I'd still have the husky :)

18" bar on the stihl is too much, 15 or 16" is loads, its only a 50cc saw. Put her screaming with a 13" also.

Stihl are saying it will handle up to a 20" bar?. Im looking for a saw to run at least an 18" bar.

The 20" would be skip chain or 3/8 picco at least. 560xp or 362 is a better bet for an 18 inch bar.

That sounds very expensive, i thought they are around the 700 mark, the 261 is around the same money now too.
