I just want to ask a quick question. I am Contracted to a multinational, through an agency and I am paid by an Umbrella Company. Since they feel it necessary that I pay Personal and Employers PRSI, am I entitled to travel expenses getting to and from work? I drive from Athlone to Leixlip and back each day and have toll charges on top of that, my own choice and I could easily avoid that at the expense of a slightly longer journey time.

I know trades people, i.e. Plumbers, Carpenters and Electricians factor in travel costs into their pricing for work done, am I be entitled to the same as a Contractor, who must make their own way to an from work?

Trades people factor in these cost's before they price a job/contract. You have already agreed on payment so not very likely me thinks.

Travel from home to work is not allowed as an expense

Thought as much. No harm in asking though.

From my understanding is you cannot claim travel expenses from home to your normal place of work. As this is not counted as work related travel.

you could if you had to travel to different locations each day, but as you are working in the same office you can't claim mileage.
If you were to create your own company, however, there's a few other things you could do.
Ditch the umbrella company if you are on more than about 90k per year, otherwise, potentially not worth it.
