Budapest Airport to Centre...

Have a trip planned to Budapest in a couple of weeks. I hate getting in to anywhere unfamiliar very late - but there's no avoiding it - as Ryanair flights get in at 23:30.

I'd like to try and get a couple of beers and something to eat - so need to get straight to guesthouse/hotel. Whats the drill on getting in to the centre?

Is it train/bus/metro? How long does it take? What district should I look to get accommodation in - that would be easily accessible from whatever transport service there is to the city centre?

Will only be booking that for one night (as moving on from B'pest the next day...and coming back later in the week) - so booking will be purely geared around rapid check in - so that I might have a bit of time left to get a few beers in somewhere...

Metro finished by time you get out of airport (11.30 pm). Also to get to the metro station you need to take a bus from the airport to the last metro stop Kobanya Kispest shopping centre on blue line metro 3. Bus journey lasts about 15mins. Then the metro to centre about 25mins.

Best bet is a taxi which works out about 18Euro in Hufs (at that hour of night you'd be in city in about 20 mins). As you are only there a short time maybe stay somewhere in Pest, perhaps near the Oktogon area but not necessarily right at it (can't recall the district number).

Buda side is very very nice though, just not in the centre of things. Transport is very good in Budapest anyway so you'll get from A to B in no time.

Yep, I agree taxi is the best way to go at that time. We arrived a couple of years back on the same flight that lands at 11:30pm and grabbed a taxi to hostel. Threw our things in and headed out for drinks straight after, lots of night life and bars around where we were staying and they all stay open very late so no issues really with the late flight. Doing that same again in late November, same flight and will grab a taxi and hit the bars after check in!

Ordinarily I would but I just need to be connected 24/7. Other than that, I find it very useful for google maps and stuff like that. In fact, its the very first thing I sort out upon arrival anywhere I've gone in the last few years...makes life so much easier. :-)

Which district is that? I've booked into somewhere in District 6.
