Galway or Belfast

I have two friends coming over mid Nov for 5 day or so, trying to plan something for them other than Dublin (where I live) and Cavan (where I'm from). Thinking Dublin Wed/Thurs night, Cavan Fri and then two nights in either Belfast or Galway.

I've been to Galway before and loved it, Cliffs of Moher are near by enough and I'm sure there's other stuff to do also. Never been to Belfast or Titanic, been to the Causeways a few times. We'll probably end up going out and seeing some local spots in either city.

Either way I don't mind where to go but which would be better for someone visiting the country?

Belfast has a good bit more to see and do. Great pubs and clubs there. Fantastic vibe about the place too, certainly not the kind many would expect given its past.

Galway for convenience and currency! Great city, loads of things to do on the way there and back

Why not clare? Cliffs of moher, Ailwee caves, Bunratty castle, burden, wild Atlantic way and good puns and music.

My own initial thoughts on reading this was Belfast. Great memories! You could drive upto Antrim - Bushmills distillery; carrick-a-rede bridge; Giants Causeway; coastal road back down toward Belfast <-- that could be done in one day :)

Another then just in Belfast alone.

Galway as a base and you'd have Beautiful Clare nearby. You can read my own experience right here as a Tourist in Clare. Add in water-sports aplenty if that's of interest.

Those 2-days in either of Galway or Belfast won't be long passing,

I love both cities but the pound is strong at the minute so I'd go with galway. It's about €130 for £100 at the mo.

I'd recommend my home town more if you were planning a visit anytime from March to September with all the festivals going on and the longer days to enjoy outdoor things.

And while there is still a lot going on in November, the place can look a bit drab when it rains and the main activities worth seeing revolve around whats going on in various theatres and pubs in the evenings.

Although as others have said, the cliffs and caves of Clare are just down the road and Connemara is on our doorstep. The Aran Islands are within easy reach too and won't be mobbed with tourists in November.

I love Belfast too however and there is lots to see and do in and around the city. The exchange rate isn't great at the moment though and I often find the city centre a very soulless place in the evenings.

But if you only have a day or two I'd go for Galway, simply because the smaller size of the city makes it easier to pack a lot more in when you're on limited time.

Been meaning to post here sooner, decided to do Galway on sat/sun.

Besides cliffs of moher and caves anything else worth seeing thats nearby or on the way from Dublin?
