1.8 TDCI Mondeo 100ps - enough power?

Hi just looking for a bit of advice. I was looking at a 2011 mondeo 1.8 TDCI with 100PS. I believe this is similar to 100 bhp and Iwas just wondering will this be under powered for a car as big as a mondeo.

I realise it will not be great in terms of power, but will it be annoyingly poor for acceleration especially for overtaking, and also what is the 1.8 TDCI like for reliability, from reading UK car review sites I don't see this car listed.

I am not looking for a particularly fast car but just normal driving. The space and good reliability and reasonable mpg would be more important factors.

    Any help would be appreciated,

Did you not drive the car?

Underpowered is a pretty subjective term. A car that would seem underpowered to one person would be perfectly adequate for someone else.

If it's the 100 PS model, then it's a poverty spec LX. Even if you're not interested in power, the fact that it is only available in the most basic of trim levels will hurt its desirability on the second-hand market. The Zetec has 25% more power minimum and has a lot of useful extra goodies that will make it more desirable to any prospective future buyer.

Even if it was perfectly adequate for performance, I'd still avoid it as Zetecs are very common and are a lot nicer to be in.

Ya the edge/lx spec has the 100bhp, move up to the Zetec trim and you'll get 125bhp, which I find perfect. Crappy equipment on the lx too.

    Enough power........no!

I had a C5 with 110 and it was just about ok.

Thanks guys for all the replies, it is very helpful. I had a brief test drive but not enough to get a proper feel for the car. I did feel it was under powered but was interested to hear other peoples opinions.

I currently drive a 2010 diesel subaru impreza (not the rally car!!) and was thinking of moving to a bigger saloon type car for practicalities. The more cars I take for test drives though, the more I like my subaru, may put off changing for a few years.

Thanks again for the advice on the mondeo, I was tempted with low mileage and reasonable price compared to other similar size cars but i will hold fire for the time being.

A Legacy might be more up your street in that case if you want space.
