Hello. I had a drastic head gasket failure yesterday. Being quoted 765 for complete repair. Seems like a fair price. The car is a 00 BMW 318 with 130k miles.

Scrap and look in bangernomics? Or repair?

    Opinions please!

Possibly an option to pick up cheap and swap over parts.

Scrap it..even with full test running good it's only going to fetch 1k ish.

I wouldn't sell it after repairing. I would continue to drive it. My only concern is what else might go.....might be just as well to pick up a new bangernomics model.

Even though I do love those cars around that year - at that age and those miles I wouldn't bother repairing unless you've already replaced the cooling system.
    Your call though.

I suppose that you're head and your heart are battling each other. As someone who has owned six BMWs (only one was from new), I feel that it's important to state that you must not sentimentalise any car (of a certain age) that's causing you financial problems.

You've probably seem the best of this particular car - it's not going to be a classic BMW, so there's no value in keeping it any longer and sinking more money into it.

Best to get the best price that you can from a BMW parts breaker and move on.

Best thing i'd do is break it for parts and buy another one.. Atleast you'd probably get more back for it then selling it
