    Hi

Just wondering what’s users experiences of Mosquito deterrents and which one they have found the best. I have used Jungle Formula for travels around Africa, Middle East and Asia and now going back to Asia. I have been bitten, who has not, and not fond of the Deet.

    So any other recommendations?

    Cheers

I used that Jungle Formula as well but didn't find it great. I picked up lemongrass oil in Asia and it was ok. At least it smelled good!

Other than that, eat lots of garlic!

I used Deet while in India but still got lots of bites.

Cutter is a brand that is well known, think it is American. A friend of mine works with scouts over there and recommends it.

I bought tmb (travel medical bureau) 100% deet in Dunnes and found it to be really good. I get fairly badly bitten and have an allergic reaction to bites, but using that I had no trouble at all.

if you can find lavender plant oil and dab that around yourself, it works.
If you get bitten, then use alcohol vinegar to soothe the bite.

As far as I know DEET is the best repellent, but traditional remedies can work well enough too. If you're in one place, those special scented sticks they use in Asia are supposed to be a good alternative to applying stuff to skin. DEET 50% is the strongest you need for it to work, after that the increase in concentration does not increase its effectiveness other than irritate skin.

Tea Tree oil is good. Chinese White Flower oil is also good and smells better! And if you do get bites then the Tea Tree oil is great for killing the itch!

I live in a mosquito infested part of the world.

This is how I deal with it:

    1. Windows closed in the evenings.
    2. Air conditioning on so my bedroom is cold and mosquitoes don't want to be there.
    3. Feet, ankles, legs covered from the evening onwards.

Basically I apply the same rules as avoiding crime - make someone else the target.
