Delicate problem

    Afternoon all,

The mods may consider this to be a medical issue and a no-go area. I don't see what good a doctor will do; he or she will simply tell me to stop wearing the shorts. However, if that's what the mods think and wish to close the thread, that's fine. Nothing ventured, etc.

Okay, onto the problem. I have a pair of Santini bib shorts. They cost the far side of €100 when I bought them. They are the most comfortable pair of shorts that I have, but I've finally narrowed an issue down to this particular pair of shorts...

Don't laugh, but after a spin, I seem to have a grazed a small amount of skin off each side of my scrotum. I don't feel it during the spin, but when I get home after 60+ km, I have a small amount of blood staining on the chamois pad. Generally more on the right than the left, but that's just the way I tend to naturally hang.

I don't have a medical question. As I said above, all I can do is stop wearing the shorts, which I have done. I've checked the pad and I don't see a problem with the pad or the stitching that could be causing this. I want to buy another pair of shorts, but before I do that, I want to poll the forum and see if anyone has heard of this happening before so that I can avoid dropping another €100 on shorts that I can't wear. They seem to fit okay compared to my other shorts, but is it possible that they're slightly too small or slightly too big?

Sounds like they are slightly too small.. I wear Santini shorts, I'm 6' tall I weigh 75 kg and I wear Size XL shorts.

Possibly too big if they are chafing, maybe try some cream? thankfully I've never had this experience

Try going for a bike fitting if you have never done so. I used to suffer around that area after every spin no matter what shorts i wore. Bike shop tool one look at my bike and said the saddle was way too high, so they lowered it and the chaffing has pretty much stopped. Might be worth a try.

    No need to boast!

OP, strikes me that they are on the small side if that's the result of wearing them.

Have you tired Assos cream or some such other stuff on the affected area before a ride ?

Assume you can put the stuff on that area ?

Does have a cooling effect so think it will be alright, i've personally never tried it or had to for that matter !

As there have been some helpful suggestions to your post OP I am afraid I simply have to add that you have no choice but to cut your balls off.

I mean, it's not like stopping cycling is an acceptable option.

I think they're the Santini Gara shorts. I checked the size and they're XL, but I'm a couple of inches short of the six foot mark and I move between 85 and 95kg. I guess I'm just a fat bloater and I'll have to take a look at 3XL. The shame.

    Use chamois cream or Vaseline.

    The shorts or the balls?

Thanks everyone, I've gotten the answers I need. The thread can be closed now.
