    Hi,

I am trying to choose a timing belt for my 08 Volvo s40 1.6d. The work will be done by my mechanic, I am just supplying the parts.

I am looking at this part atm: http://www.micksgarage.com/proddetails.aspx?pid=1713192

Volvo's Timing belt service interval is insane - every 240k KM. If I get a third party timing belt (say the one above), would it still be same service interval, or would it be different?

Trying to choose between paying 350 for a third party service or 590 for Volvo genuine.

Thank you for your help :)

A belt kit for that engine is around €120 in a motor factors, complete with pulley, tensioner and water pump.

I'm not a Volvo expert but I have to wonder about the merits of going for a non-OEM timing belt - it's a vital part.

You mention aggregate prices for the parts and labour.

What would be the price difference between your mechanic buying an OEM timing belt at trade prices from a Volvo dealer/parts specialist versus the price of the non-OEM timing you're interested in?

There's hardly any price diff. Unless your mechanic have asked you to supply the parts I'd have them supply instead. This way they can stand over the work and the parts used better (in case there is trouble later).
