Basically my golf has everything I want in terms of extras except a centre armrest. Not having one isn't the end of the world but it would be nice to have one. So the biggest problem is if I get one I want a proper vw one and just couldn't get one of them sh!t looking micksgarage ones even though that would be the cheapest simplest option. So has anyone ever fitted one or if anyone has seen any kits with the armrest online or just has any general advice on it I'd appreciate it.

get am armrest complete with mounting bracket for a scrappers. if its a similar system to my Audi, and icant see why it wouldnt be, then it bolts to the chassis just behind the handbrake. one thing im not sure of is if the centre consoles are different.

Did this myself on a mkv. There are a good few guides on the web. Bought the full set off eBay brand new from a VW garage in UK. Think it was £250. Handy enough DIY if you are anyway used to removing trim etc. you basically remove the current centre console and replace it with a new one.

Bought from this crowd (was in 2010) and it came with instructions.

Edit: here is a guide which shows a similar install except it's for the cup holders

Hey, did the same for my golf a couple of years ago. Hope it helps.

Was it reasonably sturdy when it was fitted and was it a comfortable position as I know ones like that aren't adjustable. It's an option anyway not a nice as getting a proper vw armrest but then it's about 1/5 the price though. I'd like an armrest but to give 250-300 euro to get a proper kit of the dealer in the uk is big money. So I might just considering get a similar one to what you had if you found it good.

Yea I found it very good. I ideally wanted to get the OEM version but it was working out to be too expensive.

I was very happy with the armrest, found it sturdy and nice little bit of extra storage in the armrest itself. Overall for the price and the 10 mins easy installation process I couldn't have any complaints.

I'm kind of thinking the same as you id love an oem one but it does get to a point where you think is it worth paying that kind of money for one. It still only an armrest at the end of the day. Thanks for all your help anyway.

My thinking exactly - all the best with it.
