I was sure there was a topic on this already, but I couldn't find it

Saw it today, really good movie. Maise Williams sounds far too english to be be playing an irish girl though :P Shame to see the screen I saw this in today was pretty much empty, while the screens for maze runner and teenage mutant ninja turtles were bursting.

It had a feel of a Shane Meadows film for me, it really surprised me a little as it had it's heart in the right place. David Wilmot (a really underrated actor) and James Nesbitt (the Running videos his character makes are the real standout :pac: ) are the best things in it. I agree Maise Williams accent wobbles many a time but she's fine in this and her presence will get GOT fans to check it out, although her character was a little whiny in it. Kerry Condon ( the girl Colin Farrell punches in Intermission in the café) was good too even though I really disliked her character
She's the one that pissed off with their P.E Teacher and expects Wilmot's character to deal with it
    .

I was at a screening of this at Cineworld and it was apart from a few people pretty empty (they should have put it on smaller Screens 1, 2 or 15), they did just throw it out there rather then promote it to well. Sad really as it's a pretty good Irish film that deserves a little more attention.

One of the better recent Irish films for sure. Music was a bit much at times but it's a credit that the majority of the scenes work without it and the characters are always believable. One of those films where just being in the company of pleasant, quirky and likable people for 90 minutes is enough.

I'm surprised this film isn't doing much better. It's not fantastic, but it's very good with a warm heart and some very funny bits. I agree that Masie gave up on the faux accent early in the film, but I found her a bit irritating when she was trying too hard - her English accent didn't detract from the film IMO.

I think it's strong and word of mouth may help to get people to go see it, which they should. It's very good.

No not at all, the accent was incredibly minor, she was pretty good in it.

I think putting it in a big screen in cineworld was a big mistake (in my screening only 5 or 6 people were there in screen 13), it should have been put on Smaller screens 1, 2 or 15 and build it up from there but a lot of well received Irish films don't last long ( Run and Jump got fewer screenings, only 1 week run and Noble, only a 1 week run).

I think that it was rushed released and not given a lot of promotion ( Masie on Late Late Show been the only bit of promotion that I saw and a few posters up in Cineworld a few weeks before the release). It was a rather good Irish film like Noble, but sadly I don't think they seem not to go over well even if the films get great reviews with local audiences.

This popped up on Netflix today. I'd meant to see it in the cinema but never got around to it.

I really enjoyed it. It's a familiar kind of story but it still works. The fairly short running time works well too as it's just enough time to tell the story and you don't get sick of the characters.

As someone mentioned already some of the music on some of the scenes was a bit off putting but then some of the music on some of the scenes worked really well. Also, and this is coming from someone who has a real issue with bad accents, I didn't mind Maisie Williams' accent slipping, and it did quite a few times. It wasn't enough to be annoying and I'd say if you didn't know who she was you might not be entirely sure whether she was Irish or not.

I agree about James Nesbitt's videos being the best part and the bit where he thinks he's been called to the club to give a presentation on them is a highlight too.

I think what I liked most about this is that even though it's an Irish film in that it's made here it's not an "Irish Film" in a bad way. It's not full of stereotypes or "Irish Humour". You could easily have picked everyone up and moved them to Glasgow or Manchester or anywhere really. At the same time though it's got a natural sort of Irish charm about it. Not the kind that's laid on thick to try and sell itself overseas. If any of that makes sense :)

Point is.. I really liked it.
