16 is the minimum age, you will probably have to do a safety/competency course as well.

You will need to be a member of a gun club, target club or permission from landowners to justify the rifle.
Go to a gun shop and pick out whatever rifle you want, then fill out the form hand it in to the guards and wait.

Sorry for for going off topic now.

But dose anyone know if you are over 21 but never had a firearms license do you still have to do a course of complacency. I will be applying for a .22/.17. I have a gun safe and can get 4 or 5 permissions as I am not a member of a club. Any advice appreciated greatly thanks.

Probably as it is your first certificate you will have to do the competency course, as you have no prior history of firearms.

I did the competence course a while back and have to say it was worth every cent. Very informative and all in all a great day. Taught me a lot about firearms in general
