Are we losing all our numismatic shops?

Popped into Cathedral Stamps today just to find out that it has moved to Kimmage. Obviously not the same as closing down but very out of the way for me to get to. Would really have to have something in mind to justify that trip as oppose to just popping in on the fly.

This follows the Collector's Shop and (I think) War and Pieces going from Blackrock market. Apparently in very acrimonious circumstances. So as far as I know that leaves Lir Coins in George's Arcade and bi-annual Stampa and Whyte's auction. Are there any other places?

It would be a pity if this hobby ended up being completely online. :(

    /rant over.

    Declan O'Kelly's New Address:
    Cathedral Stamps
    Unit B14, KCR Industrial Estate,Kimmage

    Bus 9, 15A,17,54A

I could never understand how he could afford to run a business like this in the middle of town, what with the rents and rates there. It's not the kind of business that you're ever going to have queues of people in. It's far too specialised and I've been thinking it for years that the only way this can go is Online, Fairs, Auctions and selling from home.

Would it have killed Stampa to put "and coin" in their advertisements, you'd swear these two groups were competing with each other. This is also a major coin fair in case anyone didn't know.

I made up that Ad myself for my own site and the only mention that I could find of "Stampa" was on the antiquated RDS site. The even more appalling http://stampa.ie/ mentioned nothing about coins so I decided not to mention them either.

Ah right, didn't know it was yours. But yes that's been going on for years, they rarely mention the coins even in their newspaper ads for the fair. That came up briefly in a conversation with one of the organisers, but I can't remember now what politics came into play, it was years ago. Must ask again at the weekend.

Has anyone been out to Declan's new place? It would be great if he has room to display his stuff properly. So much of his stock in the last place seemed to be off limits.

Not me anyway, he mustn't be there that long, I only got that in an email a few days ago. He'll be at the fair this weekend I'm sure.
