    Hi lads,

I would like to buy a generic satellite receiver for Free to Air channels. The satellite antenna I have is facing Astra 2 satellite.

    * What is your opinion about 'AMIKO 8900 Alien' satellite receiver ? I mean in terms of performance stability , ease of operation and firmware upgrade etc....

    * How is Fergusson ARIVA 150 and Technomate TM3000 performance as compared with Amiko brand ?

    * What about the other ones like AMIKO 8240 or AMIKO 8360 OR AMIKO 8840 ?

    I will appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks in advance.

Amiko 8900 is an old box....buy an amiko alien 2 instead....or amiko alien3 just released.

If you are simply looking for a fta box why not buy a freesat labelled box such as the Manhattan HD-S2

    Hello,
I agree I need a basic Free to air / Freesat box . Can you recommend some good supplier for this.... just in case there is any technical issue ?

How are AMIKO free to air boxes in terms of performance as compared with other brands around same price range ?

    Thanks.

Amiko boxes are a generic box that can have its software altered to give extra functions such as iptv and unscramble channels using software not allowed to be discussed here.

Freesat labelled boxes if all you want is fta channels is the best route to go as it will provide you with a full epg on all the freesat channels however it will not provide you with the Irish channels. They are readily available and I have never had any problems with any of the freesat range.

    Thanks for the reply.
I heard of a box called 'SAB F+ Solo HD Linux Receiver' . Its a Holland based company. Has anyone used this receiver for free to air / freesat ? How is their picture reception quality and ease of setting up ?

It seems to have Enigma software on it loaded also . Is that something special ?

    Thanks.

    Hello,
What is the difference between free-to-air and freesat ?
Can a generic free-to-air box receive the freesat channels also ? I mean whats the difference between a freesat box and a non-freesat box ?

Freesat is basically a managed 7 day epg service on a Freesat spec satellite receiver which the FTA channels pay a fee to be part of, similar to the Sky guide. All channels are allocated a fixed position (LCN) in the epg.

The Freesat channels continue to be available on any FTA sat receiver without the 7 day epg and in random order. Not all FTA channels are on Freesat.

    Hello...
Nice to learn some new stuff about freesat and free to air. Has anyone tried using SAB TITAN free to air receivers ? I cannot find any reviews about them. Some shops in my city do tend to sell them. Please help. SABSATELLITE in Netherlands.
