Mac: Keeping External Drive Mounted after sleep?

    I have a 2011 iMac with an external hard drive which I use for Time Machine backups. When I start the computer after a shutdown the drive mounts with no problems and the time machine backup takes place when scheduled. However when I wake the mac up after it has been put to sleep as opposed to a shut down, the mount doesn't mount properly. I can still see it but I can't access the files on it and the time machine backup fails. I have to force eject it and plug it back in and then re-enter my password for it.

    Anyone know what's going on and how I can fix this?

    you can do this using unix auto mounting, but I'd recommend using the Control plane app. http://www.controlplaneapp.com
    you can use it execute actions when events happen.

    for example, I disable 'internet sharing' when my mac mini goes to sleep to allow deep sleep. And enable internet sharing on wake up.

    It seems to have actions you need : "Mount/Unmount external and network drives"
