    Hi,

    Probably I will receive the summons in the nearest future. I assume it will be delivered by registered letter. I leave home early in the morning and come back around 8-9 pm.

    There is a babysitter at home but I do not wish her to collect any post and especially registered letters.

    What will happen if the letter has not been delivered?

    Summonses are in my experience hand delivered, otherwise if it is registered letter and there is no one at the premises to sign for it then it will be brought to the local An Post depot for collection.

    and what will happened if the letter won't be collected from An Post? I drive around 50 miles to work and I am not willing to take day off just to collect the letter.

    Send a nominee around. You will get a card saying that an attempted delivery was made along with collection details; simply fill out and sign the back of it with the name of somebody who will collect it for you.

    What now?

    We’ll leave you a “Sorry we missed you” notice which will let you know how you can get your mail item.
    Using the “Sorry we missed you” notice you can
    • Collect your item by calling to the local delivery depot with the “Sorry we missed you” notice and identification.
    • Nominate an agent to collect the item on your behalf. You (the addressee) must sign the “Sorry we missed you” notice and the agent must have this and their own identification to collect the item.
    • Arrange a redelivery of the item online at www.anpost.ie/redelivery to the same or an alternative address. Redeliveries take approximately 2 working days (Redlivery fee €1.00).

    I'm a bit unclear on what you're trying to achieve. Are you trying to find a way to collect the letter, or to avoid the letter. If you clarify your intentions, we might be able to help.

    @RainyDay

    I'm not trying to avoid but also I'm not going to make any effort to help someone to bring me to the court. So the question is what the consequences are (if any) if the letter won't be collected?

    @Fred Swanson
    I think that covers the question.

    Thanks all.

    Pretty much what Fred said. Eventually they will get permission of a judge to simply put it in your letterbox and it will be deemed served.

    It can be served a number of ways. By post as already discribed or simply put through the letter box, permission from a judge is not required. It can be served by hand. Any person at your address over the age of 18 will have to accept it. Once the guard is happy the person is over 18 it is deemed served.
