NCT Parking Brake Fail - Help Needed

Hi I failed my NCT last week on Parking Brake Effort being < 16%. My car scored 15%. Everything else was fine and the imbalance was 33%

I brought it to a mechanic who tightened it up for me. I did the retest and it passed with 21% but failed on imbalance this time - 65%

The mechanic is now saying I need new discs, pads, shoes and sensors. Could this be the case? The car passed with Service Break Effort of 82% and good scores on imbalance too. Also the discs, pads, shoes and sensors were replaced 20,000 miles ago

Any help greatly appreciated. Car is an e46 by the way.

Can you post a picture of the NCT report.

The E46 has separate shoes for the handbrake. Adjusting them up without removing the discs and inspecting the shoes and cables is a waste of time usually.

You might want to edit your details out of them.

He somehow managed to make the right worse, while making the left better. I'd say a proper strip, clean and adjust would fix that.

The right side mechanism that engages the shoes could be sticking though.

    Test Reports Attached.

Yeah I was surprised to hear i needed to change all those parts. Was quoted €260 for this after already paying 50 to fix it the first time. The place has got great recommendations as a BMW indy though. Im supposed to get it looked at tomorrow at 10 am.

Sure wait and see what they say. You'd think if all that needed replacing that they'd have told you in the first place.
