How can i find out for certin if my htc m8 is real or fake?

I ask because it was bought for me second hand and the camera is shockingly bad for a high end phone and almost blurry at times

Make sure it's not in Manual focus mode for starters, if it's in Auto mode you should be getting decent AF and clarity.

There is one simple test you can do to check, put your finger over the top lens on the back when going to shoot. A warning should pop up informing you that the duo camera is blocked. If it doesn't, or if indeed there isn't 2 lenses on back, then maybe it's a fake.

Have you inspected the lens? The M8 comes with a coating on the lens to stop fingerprints, but it gets fine scratches easily and can affect picture quality. This coating can be removed. I used toothpaste, and it made a huge difference. Google for more info.

I was trying to offer a simple solution to what could be your problem. I guess some people just prefer to complain.

if the camera is shockingly bad its either fake or your doing something wrong

Have to say I wouldn't use toothpaste either, unless it was an extreme case of not a hope of getting a decent picture. But OP is right, nobody should have to do it, bit of a mess up on the coating by HTC.

The camera on mine produces excellent images for a phone, just as good as any iphone or other smartphone with higher mp ... anyone who knows even a little about photography knows that mp count means little unless you plan to blow the images up large. The newer E8 has a 13mp camera but images from it are lesser quality than from the M8, that says something.

Have you tried what I suggested? because that's the fastest way of knowing. Cover the top lens, and a warning ahould pop up. If there is no top lens, then it's a fake anyhow, but if it doesn't react when you cover it, that's another sign that it may not be a duo cam, therefore not an M8

For the record, I only suggested toothpaste as it's the easy solution. The fact of the matter is that HTC put an anti-fingerprint coating on the lens, and this scratches quite easily. I've owned no less than 8 HTC's and never had this problem in the past. I did get the M8 on the day of release up north, so it may only be early batches that have the problem.

It might not even be the problem, it was only an idea. There could be a genuine fault with your device.

I know, I've seen a few people around say they had to do same. I guess I would if the coating ever got so bad too. But it'll be a last resort. If it works, then why not eh?
