What's the best way to plumb a massey ferguson 135 for a log splitter can you use the tipper pipe and a diverter valve and also would a log splitter on this type of tractor be slow

I have seen them work on a 35 at the ploughing 3 years ago as fast as any other tractor not sure how it was plumped up though.

I use the 135. Easy run. And not much more than ticking over. Diverting valve and a return into a tapped hole in side under seat.

If ya have the time/resources.. a pto hydraulic pump is a serious job.. might need a cooling rad too but worth the effort if you a lot splitting to do!

Not so sure. Have a 398 with dual pump but it would be 2 quick. Know 2 ppl cut of parts of fingers and one who crushed finger to mush.
plenty of speed with own pump. And she not much more than ticking over.
we split ash, birch, fir, some of which was lying for 2+ years and knots . Ram not to big so not much oil flow needed. Cannot understand the need for some of these Hugh rams I see on splitters I have seen them with 8" wide rams WTF they are needed for beats me unless it cutting Huge rings. with a 6 or more way splitter

There's a 'grease' nipple just under the nose. Apply miller long neck and give a few squirts to keep all moving parts lubricated :D

I think that's the one alright its on the left hand side if your standing behind the tractor.
You could plumb the return back to where you fill the gearbox :)

    Return goes here

I read on the internet that it said that it would be better if you would plumb return into where you fill the gearbox as it has a bigger capacity than under the seat as under the seat might damage the hydraulics !!

    I wonder how.
local mechanic that I worked with and used to work in mf dealership told me to put it there.
is it not just a blank hole for that purpose. There is another Alan key stud further forward !!
When fitting the Diverting valve be extra sure to keep the stand pipe 100% straight.

The log splitter I will be borrowing has 2 male connections the pointy 1's could I use the male connection on that hole or would a connection in your picture be a safer bet ?

more than likely, the hose in the photo has the connection on the end of it for the connections you describe

Are the return hose and hose from diverter valve the same size ?

Same diameter. One is probably a foot longer. Some of the dealers will be able to kit u out with the parts and will know what u need. 2 pipes, diverter and 2 female quick couplings.

That's the way I did it on mine.. Drilled the filler, female connect just fastened in , nut either side, piece of cake... Worked the finest for years..
