I have the option to buy a 2010 OPEL INSIGNIA S 2.0TDI 130BHP ECOFLEX that is being sold within the company I work for, it was driven by someone who works within the company and has 181k kilometeres on it. I can buy it for 7.5k, they have told me the timing belt will be changed. I am seriously tempted but I am wondering is there anything I should be looking out for as it has high mileage, and is the value correct for the mileage on it?? Any advice greatly appreciated.

usually cars like that are well looked after, full history etc
the belt been done is a big bonus with any car.
i wouldnt mind the high miles its nothing on a diesel
if it has been on the motorway a lot it is a bonus less wear and tear on the steering suspension etc.

Talk to the person at work who was driving it and ask them about it's history around reliability. That will give you an idea of whether it is a good car or a money pit.

Flywheel in the insignia's usually go at around 150k on average so I'd check if that has been done (common problem)

As far as I am aware the "Ecoflex" versions come with the more powerful 160 bhp engine while the other versions are badged CDTI.They are dreadful cars to drive anyway, in my opinion.

Ecoflex is Opel speak for retuned for lower Co2 emissions. Both the 130bhp and 160bhp switched over to Ecoflex in late 2009.

The S model really is a miserable place to be, so for that reason, I'd say no thanks.

Price wise, it's pretty good and the insignia is capable of high mileage, so there's still a good bit of use in one with 181k on the clock.

If it was an SC or above, then yes, but not an S, anything but an S.

Ok - got talking to the previous owner, was well looked after. Serviced on time, mostly motorway mileage - no noises or rattles. I brought the car to the local OPEL garage for a health check today with the only thing to be done being the timing belt which the company have said they will cover. Had talked myself out of it earlier but on thinking about it again it seems to be a decent enough offer - decisions, decisions!!

Just an update, decided against it in the end. On review their reliability record seems too poor and even at that price with that mileage I think it is at the stage where things will start to go wrong with it and may end up being a money pit. Thanks for all the advice.
