Hi John, I think there is some special offer for them for VIP for the Xsmc11 and mcr042 red is it? :-) also do you stock up maybe any small kitchen radios or alarm clock? I think i may stick with £ prices the exchanges rate is quite high.
How much is the black Pioneer XHM20 in pounds then?

    Thanks

The MCR042 is available to VIP ( and of course Boardies) at £119.95 we are not meant to ship it ( its marked as 'In-Store Only) but there is a reasonable quantity of them so if you want one I don't mind 'bending' the rules slightly - it would be £119.95 + £6.99 shipping = £126.94 / €154.99..

I hear you on the rate but the Euro pricing also includes shipping whilst the sterling price has a minimum shipping charge of £6.99 and up to £12.95 depending on which warehouse its in - the Euro pricing always includes shipping.

On small radios we just stock the Roberts range ... ( However their Stream 63i is a great product!)

    EC,

OK its in perfect condition, I'm listening to it as we speak with my ye olde iPhone4 docked streaming from tunein radio - ( that's after listening to a CD so loud that I was asked to turn it down!)

SO it works great and its completely unmarked and boxed as new..

now the bad news - I cant find a remote or the FM antenna for it - I think they are forever lost! But I'll leave it at €40 delivered if you would like it with just the main unit / 2 speakers ( also unmarked) and the mains lead :)

Drop us a mail to sales@richersounds.ie or a PM with your contact details if you want to grab one and I'll get one of the guys to give you a call to organise a delivery,

    Hi John & crew,

I'm looking for a soundbar or micro system. I have a Philips 47PFL8404 which I got from yourselves a few years back and I think the speakers in it have some issue where the sound distorts. 99% of the time its fine, and for music its fine, but some voices it struggles with.  Anyhow... So I need something to hook up to that over HDMI so the volume control TV controls the sound from the new unit. It has to have an FM tuner or DAB tuner built in too. And Bluetooth would be the icing on the cake. If its a micro system, then a CD player will be handy. A dvd player is not important.

Any suggestions or anything in clearance?

    Thanks

Ok I don't think that your TV remote will control the output volume over HDMI ( that's still a really nice TV BTW!) and again ( not trying to be negative) I'm not aware of any soundbars with built in FM or DAB tuners ( Bluetooth isn't a  problem as lots of Soundbars have these) - I think you may have to have a think to see if the option to use the TV volume control to control volume is an essential prerequisite as this wont be possible if you are using a mini system, but some soundbars will learn the TV volume?

Also if you could give me an idea on budget then we will start scratching the heads and see what we can come up with!

Thanks John. Surprised about the remote not controlling soundbar volume over HDMI. But I guess if the soundbar can learn the TV volume than that's the same result which is fine. I just don't another remote when watching TV!

Yeah, I've spent a few hours looking for a soundbar with a radio and they are few and far between. Found http://www.currys.ie/Product/jvc-thwl701b-sound-bar/322139/145.2 but it may not do the remote TV volume. Thinking further, I don't want a micro system. We rarely use CDs or DVDs so there's not need for the extra unit.

So what does HDMI give versus optical out? If soundbar is CEC HDMI compliant, what are the features it provides?

Budget I guess is around €250. Trimming the list down, we definitely want a soundbar with a subwoofer. It must have Bluetooth. Unsure on the HDMI. Volume control via TV remote. Is an option to have additional speakers via Bluetooth available?

OK that makes things far clearer and I think it will make your life simpler as well!

The one thing I cant do is a soundbar with a radio, but once if have Bluetooth you can stream radio or any App via your Phones or Pads so I think that this can be overcome..

If you want a Deal! we have one Yamaha YAS201 left which is a really superb Bar / Sub combo left brand new boxed that I would clear at just £179.95 / €259.99 ( This was £299 and the euro price includes delivery) http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-12106-yas201-black.aspx the Yamaha will learn your TV's volume remote codes no problem but it does not feature Bluetooth.. Have a look here: http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-12106-yas201-black.aspx

If it was me, I'd probably go for the Onkyo LSB50 - this again is a Sub / Bar combo with a great sub! its Bluetooth equipped and has both optical and coax inputs  so your 8404 is catered for!) and its also has a USB input so you can directly input your USB devices. Its probably the easiest to setup and use and it really does sound amazing! have a look at the manual here: http://www.uk.onkyo.com/downloads/2/5/7/3/5/Manual_LS-B50_UM_02_EN.pdf and the www.richersounds.ie link is here: http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-200224-lsb50.aspx ( the euro price is far cheaper than the sterling price and it also includes delivery!)

Thanks again and keep us posted if any of those grabs your fancy,

    ATVB,

    John Mc & Crew

Cheers John. I'll have to mull those over.

I think the lack of Bluetooth is a deal breaker for the yahama. For the Onkyo my concern would be that it doesn't have HDMI. I've read that HDMI marginally beats optical, plus I'd loose out any CEC features (if there were any).

As its a Philips TV, I took an extra look at the Philips products as they'd integrate easily using the Easylink. Something like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-HTL2163B-05-Soundbar-Subwoofer/dp/B00MYYFLJU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1415013245&sr=8-3. I'm sure the two options you gave beats this Philips for sound by a long way which is the most important thing after all.

After some further thought, I've decided to not kill two birds with one stone and keep the new TV speakers for TV only and do something separately for the radio music player.

So I'm thinking for the TV I want something that will fit in with the 8404 so it has to be silver! A sound bar like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-SC-HTB570EBS-Channel-Cinema-Sound/dp/B00CBYKDSC/ref=sr_1_23?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1415092653&sr=1-23 or maybe a sound plate like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-Sound-Bluetooth-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00JWTM1NO/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1415093390&sr=1-3. Connects via HDMI and has Bluetooth.

Then for the radio, I need to think a bit more. I want to have something touch screen for the UI so maybe an ipod or tablet and then use a Bluetooth speaker like the Bose Soundlink or Soundlink mini.

Hi Bazwaldo, thanks for the reply.

Does it absolutely have to be silver ?

The reason for that question is that the Yamaha YSP1400 soundbar is absolutely amazing.

    http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/hometheater-systems/digital-sound-projector/ysp-1400_w/?mode=model

It's made in white or black.

    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-200863-ysp1400.aspx

This won the 5 star What Hifi review and was the group test winner when compared with others from different manufacturers.

This features blue tooth, very clever app control for Android or IOS, excellent bass with option of adding an active subwoofer and to be honest would easily outperform the Panasonic in your link. If you need the silver it will really restrict what you can buy.

The Bose speakers are good although you could get something as good and possibly save a few spends at the same time. Most phones can be used as the graphic interface when playing radio to a bluetooth device, depending on the phone.

Are you looking something completely portable with built in battery ?

Let me know what you think.

It not a must that it must be silver, but whatever it is, I want it to look good and fit in. I'll take a look at the yahama in more detail, but I see it doesn't have HDMI. Are any of the soundplates any good? The colour isn't too important for them as they are under the TV stand. For price, the Maxells get great reviews.

As for the portable speaker. No it doesn't need to have a battery. But must be compact and can take being on a kitchen counter.

The Yamaha does not have HDMI inputs but that's the beauty of sound bars, they don't need them.

If you have your hardware connected to the TV, then the optical connection takes the sound from the TV.

Is there a particular reason as to why you need an HDMI input on it ?

On the speaker front - Check out the Denon Heos 3.

    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-12828-heos-3-black.aspx

This is a similar product to the Sony Play 3 speaker and offers better audio performance and all is controlled via an amp. This gives you access to internet radio, spotify and lots lots more. This works using wifi and not bluetooth. This can be complimented further by adding additional speakers around the home to produce a truly multiroom audio system.

Alternatively if you wanted a bargain and a brilliant sounding speaker that is simply stand alone.

Check out this 5 star review at £370 !

Let me know what you make of these.

    Cheers

Sorry Bazwaldo, sorry forgot to mention.

With the Heos until the end of November, if you buy any additional units after your first, you get 20% off the additional units.

    http://www.heos90days.com/uk/pages/termsandconditions.aspx

They also do a 90 day home trial offer.

Check out the video that they have here :

Wow, my head is going to explode! So many options.....

I think it might be too much for what I need. And it doesn't look like it could take the kitchen counter environment. Something with a hard wipeable surface would be better. Also its way over budget. A Bluetooth speaker is all I need. If it had a built in FM tuner, all the better. For that, something closer to 100 is really what I was looking to spend.

I don't need HDMI, but I was hoping to utilise the CEC functionality that many support. I know most soundbars learn the TV remote anyway, but there may be other benefits.

The HDMI / CEC on current products can actually be a little more hassle than needs be.

It doesn't offer anything over and above the optical for connecting to sound bars but it certainly does add to the price and complexity.

If you are looking for a good bluetooth speaker around that sort of price then the one to go for is the Cambridge Go.

    http://www.richersounds.ie/p-200775-go.aspx

This is very portable with 18 hour batter life and sounds great. You would have to stream tune-in radio to this as it doesn't have a radio on board but most bluetooth speakers won't.

    http://www.whathifi.com/cambridge-audio/minx-go/review

This is the improved version from the one in the review.

Let me know what you think and I have some pain killers if the head explodes !

To be honest, I'm confused. I'm quite out of touch with the different features on modern equipment. Nothing has stood out yet but I keep adjusting my wants as I see the bigger picture of possibilities.

For the kitchen countertop speaker, it must be simple and quick to have the radio play on it. Herself won't have the patience to press many buttons to get the radio going. She'll keep using the crappy little stereo we currently have as its easy. I wanted to have it Bluetooth enabled as she could play music from the phone without too much hassle. It must be able to take being on a counter, neat in size and maybe a nice colour or white to match counter. It doesn't need big sound and mustn't break the bank.
For the TV, again I'm confused. I want better sound. I want it to look good. I want the TV remote to control volume. Decent sound bars seem to way more expensive to 5.1 units and probably don't sound near as good either. But I don't want to have speakers around the room, just near the TV.

Apologies for the lack of decision and thanks for the responses.

I did a bit of looking and have the following which look good for the kitchen.
    1. Pure Pop Midi Portable DAB Digital/FM Radio with Bluetooth - does all I need and looks great
    2. Roth DBT-001 DAB+/FM/Bluetooth Radio - White  - doesn't look as good but is cheaper
    3. Pure Evoke D2 with Bluetooth Portable DAB/FM Radio - Glacier - probably better than 1 but doesn't look as good and a little pricier

I'm still not sure about the TV speakers.
