Has anyone had any luck getting irish Rail to refund a debit card transaction that they took twice by mistake?

Yesterday I tried to top up my card at a North Dublin DART station and when I put my pin in, it said remove card before flicking to some error and to try again, so I did that and the second time it went through.

However tonight I see there were 2x transaction sfor Irish Rail on my account one after another so it clearly took the money twice. Irish Rail said that they could give me the money back if they had the transaction ID, but it only printed one transaction ID for my card, for the one that actually fully worked.

Has anyone had any experience with this, because when I spoke to staff this morning they claimed that if there was no receipt being printed there was no transaction....

Most likely it will balance up itself tonight or after the weekend. Its a common problem with ATM machines, where the transaction can fail after the amount to withdraw it is specified.

This can show up on your online banking as a withdrawal, and then after a day or two, will balance out the transaction will either disappear or or a credit will show up.

For now, I would take screen shots of your online banking. Possibly after a day or two more information about the transaction will appear on your online banking possibly including the vendor transaction number. (This is true for Bank of Ireland 365).

Finally, if you do not get the money back, possibly best to contact your bank.
