Dryyyyyy Hair

Hey there! I welcomed my gorgeous little baby boy into the world at the end of July (LOVE him!:)) and I have been expecting odd things to happen to my hair post partum as it does to most women. I have very thick, quite long (between shoulder and elbow) blonde, highlighted hair which I'm delighted to say has always been thick and glossy but since having baby Merkin it is HORRIFIC! I haven't lost any hair at all so it's still thick but the gloss and moisture is depleted so it's dry and straw like and just in need of some miracle cure! I'm a trained make up artist so enjoy being glam etc but even when I get dolled up my hair just makes me look sh!te tbh. I've tried V05 hot oil (and I need three tubes because I have a lot of hair!), I've tried coconut and almond masks, I only really use the Aussie range of hair care but they're obviously not helping and I slathered on a Moroccan Argan oil mask and left it in for hours which helped a little but not massively......grrrrrrr!

    Two questions!

    A. Can anyone please recommend something that will rehydrate my hair? I was looking at pure Moroccan Oil online, should I get some? Or is there some natural remedy I could use?

    B. Are there tangible benefits to getting a few inches cut off? I don't mind cutting it to my shoulders or what have you if it would actually bring back some gloss and moisture!

    It's vile!

    HELP!!!

I highly recommend the Moroccan oil hair care range. The shampoo, conditionqer and oil have saved my hair. Post baby and post highlights x

Thanks so much Pushkii! Would starting off with the oil suffice or should I just get the whole shebang?! How do you use the oil? My hairdresser uses it as a finishing oil so do I do the same? I am willing to try anything at this stage!

I can't rave enough about this http://m.redken.com//products/haircare/extreme/extreme-cat my hair went to poo a few months ago and this and the shampoo sorted me right out. It's amazing.

Thanks Tilly. Is this added to damp or dried hair? The thought of an actual 'hairspray' terrifies me! I ask because alive tried the Aussie spray lock-in conditioner but to no avail  I know Redken is a better brand though.

I have quite dry hair since my last pregnancy which used to go incredibly frizzy during the summer (thanks very much!) and the only thing that works for me is using a kerastase moisturising mask. I only wash my hair twice a week as it's so dry and I use this both times and try to leave it in for 10 minutes. Then I make sure to blow dry it fully and I find tying it back loosely for about an hour also helps.

This is the mask I use

I tried Moroccan oil before but it made no visible difference to my hair. Kerastase products are the only ones that have worked for me

Thanks for this! Kerastase really suits my hair and I've only ever had good experiences with it so I think I'll try this first, simply because anything else I've used from Kerastase has worked! Could you leave it on for a couple of yours I wonder?

Sometimes when my hair gets very dry, I use this oil from VO5 and use a good amount (8-10 drops, maybe more depending) and apply it to damp hair before blow drying. It's a lot of oil (for my hair anyway) but sometimes it's needed.

Sometimes if my hair is looking a bit "meh" I'll use maybe 2-4 drops of this and its fine, it just depends on how my hair is.

Every two weeks I use this, its the Hask Argan Oil - its €2.50 in Penneys (Primark). Its like magic in a bottle.

The Hask oil is pretty similar to the Moroccon Oil so maybe give that a try before splurging on the expensive stuff. At least if it doesn't work, you won't have forked out too much for it.

I can also recommend the Dove Nourishing oil care range, this stuff is amazing (IMO anyway).

Also if at all possible, don't blow dry your hair all the time (well, depending how often you wash it obviously) if at all possible just brush through the wet hair, and gently towel dry it, add in some of the hask (or another) and put your hair up loosely in a claw clip (or leave it down if you prefer) and let it dry naturally, see if that makes a difference, it does with mine, but a for a friend of mine, it makes zero difference.

If my hair gets really dry I wash with conditioner, no shampoo, for a couple of washes. I avoid putting it on the roots if i can though and have dry shampoo to hand if it looks a bit oily. Usually i tie my hair in a topknot anyway to avoid heat styling it so doesn't matter.

I also swear by the hask protein mask, the pink one. Since going blonde my hair looks kinda frazzled but the got2b oil works wonders for taming it. Don't think it treats it just a quick fix when it looks frizzy

You put it on wet hair and they say leave it it for 5 mins but i usually leave it for an hour and then you wash it out :)

If you're going with Kerastase, i'd leave it in over night and wash it out in the morning.

    I swear by this: http://www.concordextra.com/img_uploads/FRUCTIS-3-DAY-SLEEK-SMOOTH-SPRAY-200ML-14L329H_1.JPG

You spritz three or four times into your hand and lightly smooth it all over your damp hair, then blow-dry.

It leaves your hair really soft and smooth, but don't be tempted to use too much or your hair will be oily!
I bought a bottle of this on New Year's Eve and I still have a half bottle left...you don't use a lot of it.

I used to use the Kerastase Masques but find the L'Oreal Professionnel Intense Repair Masque actually much better and far cheaper at £10.75 for 500ml. http://www.bodycare2000.com/s/c/p/loreal_professionnel_serie_expert_intense_repair_masque_500ml.asp The matching shampoo is rubbish but it works well with any of the Kerastase shampoos.

I also love the Alfaparf Semi Di Lino Moisture range and a couple of drops of Pureology Precious Oil as a finishing touch.

I'd say if you've got the time leaving it on for 2 hours would be great for your hair

    Congrats Merkin :)

The end third of my hair is prone to brittle dryness and it can feel like different hair to the top two thirds. I got this tube of extremely cheap strengthening treatment:

    http://www.tresemme.com/Images/1338/1338-332924-pltinum_strenght_pltinum_strength_deep_conditioning_tretment_300x400.png

And the ends of my hair, after using it three times in succession in place of my normal conditioner, were softer and shinier than they've ever been at that length. It was very cheap so you don't have much to lose in giving it a go. :) The improvement was amazing.

    This thing: http://www.kerastase.co.uk/products/elixir-ultime/elixir-ultime.aspx
I also have this and find it great (thick, curly hair). And they have an oil too which I use, at first I put way too much on and my hair looked lank, but now I can manage it and my hair SHINES after using it. So much so that my mother (worst critic, of course) told me last weekend that my hair looked fantastic (she who told me to cut it all off last summer...).

My hairdresser advised me to use this years ago after going from jet black to bright blonde - my hair was literally snapping off it looked terrible. She said to spray this on every 10 mins over the course of an hour then rinse out - it really did save my hair :)
