Firebird heatpac 70 90

Was working on a sooted up heatpac this evening. In spite of having all other settings correct ie o2 co2 xcess air ect., i could not get co below 114 ppm. the bottom baffle was slightly warped, and I moved it to second from top after cleaning. I have managed on lots of occasions to set up boilers with a slightly warped baffle.

I tried different O2 (co2) amounts but never got below 114ppm
It got too late to try a different nozzle (I have the recommended .65 80H) and I am going back at it tomorrow.
Could the small amounts of residual soot be causing the high CO? Should I leave it running like that for a few days and then return to check it?
    Any other suggestions?

Yes too the small amounts of soot, and the residue on the boiler surfaces, run it for about 30-40 minutes monitoring the CO, you should see it slowly reducing. I would usually pop back an evening or 2 later just for a final tune-up and it would always be clear.

Thanks. That's is reassuring. I will do just that. Luckily its only 20 minutes away.

    +1 with DGOBS
Especially if its an oiley soot.

Give it slightly excess air and call back next day.
Sometimes takes a while to clear, so I always give it a day min.

An experienced oil guy asked a question similar to your question when i was doing the oftec oil course. He was resitting the oftec exams after 5 years because he does a lot of county council work. The lectuer FB said if you have checked everything else then the fault is the nozzle because a small percentage of new nozzles are faulty

I have had bad nozzles, had a box of 10 0.6/H one time and the whole box was dud (and had mixed them in my nozzle box..grrrr)
But usually find bad new nozzles are more to with the person handling them than the nozzle

I left the boiler running for nearly an hour and retested. There was a big improvement, but it was still 73 ppm (down from 114) and not falling. I took out the burner an noticed a little soot on the burner head (see pic). I changed the nozzle to a .65 80S. Fired her up and co now reading 21ppm. I have marked the nozzle that I took out and will try it next time that particular nozzle is required to see if it was faulty.

Thank you all for your help.

Hadn't been serviced for 8 years. It was the second worse one I ever worked on. Luckily I had (and have) lots of that hand cleaner. Even then there was soot everywhere. Even after washing my hands, if I touched my clothes or hair they were black again. Straight home, clothes into washing machine and me into shower with a warning to clean it after use.
Really you would need to charge an extra €50 for such boilers. Next time I see one like that, I am going to say that to the owner and he can like it or lump it.

Due to amount I do, I come across a lot of sooty ones. But I kit up well.
Large woolly hat pulled down, neck warmer pulled up over nose, only eyes exposed.
Full zipped overals with elastic cuffs.
    Vinal gloves.
    Good Henry vac.

Only part of me that gets dirty is around eyes. Even when I wash it looks like I've sexy eyeliner on !!

    Clean hands

    I HATE indoor boilers.
    Love Soot Breaker
    I've 6 pairs of overalls.

My own WM in shed due to house dictatorship.

You are well kitted out. I would melt with all that.
Don't find the eyeliner very nice. Political correctness prevents me saying what it makes me look like. I end up with red soapy eyes trying to remove it.
Do you charge extra for those really filthy ones?

btw. I used Aldi ash vac on it and I was delighted with performance.
