Received a letter this morning saying my OPFP will be stopped next month when my son turns 16. I don't qualify for FIS as I don't work enough hours or JSA as I'm not looking for work. I have tried to call but the SW office aren't answering. Will try again tomorrow obviously but any suggestions?

if your child is 16 my question is WHY are you not looking for work? he doesn't need looking after like he did when he was small. I don't think there is any other payment you will qualify for.

Your not going to get a SW payment as there just isn't a payment for you, so your choice is, either try to get enough hours to qualify for a FIS payment, or seriously look for a full time job.
Is there a reason you can't work full time?

If you are earning less than €217.80 which is personal rate plus child dependant rate then when your ofp finishes you can apply to your community welfare officer for supplementary welfare allowance and you should receive a top up payment. Any maintenace you receive will also be assessed.

This is what I was also going to suggest.

I didn't know I could - will check and see. As someone said I could work full time - it means leaving my job of 10 years and at almost 50 it's not easy but will certainly be considered now. Just seems odd that if I work more hours (thereby earn more money) I could qualify for a SW payment (FIS) whereas at the moment I don't. Anyway all avenues will be looked into.

    Thanks

In fairness you don't actually know if you qualify for a SW payment so I would call into your nearest office asap.
