    Hi Folks,

We are getting a new bathroom fitted. We have bought a floating vanity unit. We where under the impression that the pipes should be completely sealed in the wall and not visible but our plumber is claiming that they'll still come up the bottom but that you'd have to get down on your hands and knees to see them.

While this may be right, because our bathroom is not that big so you wont be able to stand back and view it from a distance as you would in a showroom, I cant help but think hes still taking the cheap option. Or am I wrong?

Hopefully Ive explained myself enough above, appreciate any feedback.

sounds like plumber is trying to take easy route! are the pipes already there from previously?
the pipes should be chased into the wall so they would come out from the wall behind and into the unit and would not be visible under the vanity unit.

Yeah thats what I figured!! Pipes where put in by him but there coming out infront of the wall and not through it. The bathroom has just been plastered, so if he traces them in do the need to be plastered back up or can the tiler just tile them into place?
    .
    Cheers for the info!

i think they need to be plastered back in but you could do that yourself if its going to be covered in tiles anyways - we have to do the same, our plumber put pipes in wall but in wrong place so were going to move ourselves and just fix in with coat of sane and cement and tile over it.
now is the time to change it before tiler comes in - you dont want to be ripping down tiles to change it cos it doesnt look right

    Hi Folks,

Just another question please. Having some issues with the plumber. Hes giving me reason to really worry about his work. He laid the shower tray for us and the tiler was up looking at the bathroom to quote us and he started saying that it hadnt been classic sealed and that thats what should have been done to make sure it doesnt leak? He's also pointed out that the piping thats coming up to our new rads is this flexi pipe and not copper.

Should I be worried about these things, is it a difference of opinion on whats best or do I have a cowboy cutting corners at every chance?

    Cheers

Its a difference of opinion on the classic seal. Some plumbers do recommend the classic seal to the customer but its not really their job to supply it.In most cases its not fitted. The best seal to fit for your tray is sealux pro 25 with sealux silicone. If done correctly its 100 percent foolproof. My house has copper coming up to rads downstairs and qualpex in white conjugate pipe[flexi] going to rads upstairs

Showers inevitably leak if not done correctly, I'd actually suggest the tiler is covering himself, get a price for tanking the enclosure from the tiler if he doesn't know about it or needs to get someone else to do it change tiler.
With regard to qualpex to rads it's not unheard of but I wouldn't let anyone working for me do it just for cosmetic reasons though.

Cheers Folks. Unfortunately the plumber has not covered himself in glory and Im now having an issue getting him back. He was meant to complete all aspects of our new heating system and waste/water out to our shed for a utility room and I agreed to give him another 500e when that was complete. Plumbing our bathroom and kitchen would then complete the job and that would be when the balance was due.

I only gave him half the 500e on sat evening because all the rads are still not hung and the waste pipe is laid but not going into the shed, gas is also still not turned. All of which I feel was grounds to offer 250e instead of 500e and the other 250e today when he came back to complete these things.

W e had a row about it and he is now claiming that he will not be back to complete the job as he thinks Im holding out on cash!

I have paid him 3750e already, for gas central heating, new rads, waste and water out to shed and to plum trhe bathroom/kitchen. Im now in a situation where I may have to get another plumber in to finish it.

Can someone tell me what the below parts would amount to roughly:

    New glow worm gas boiler
Copper piping to fit new central heating
2 new rads for sitting room & back bedroom and a small one for front bedroom
New 6ft Marriot rad in kitchen
new chrome towel rad for bathroom
New immersion tank, the self contained ones and any associated pipework that would have gone in to that to get

Sorry to be a pain but I just want to have some sort of idea of how much of that 3750 has gone into parts and his pocket and to try price this stuff on the net is ridiculously difficult!

    Cheers
