Future schedules

Quick question. If I remember the notes in my 1989 Channel 4 American Football annual correctly, the schedules for each team are based somewhat on the teams' positions in the previous year. You play against your division rivals, some of your conference rivals and random teams in the other conference based on your finishing position and theirs, is that right?

I'm planning a trip to the States in 2015, and hope to take in a game, but by that logic, I won't know where the games actually are until what April / May next year?

Is it even possible to assume that say the 49ers will be at home on this particular date, but opponent is to be decided?

    Unfortunately not.

    (i) You play the other 3 teams in your division twice (6 games).
(ii) You play the 4 teams of another division in your conference (4 games).
(iii) You play the teams who finished in the same position as you in their own respective division, in the other 2 divisions that don't fall into (i) and (ii) above. (i.e. if you finish 1st in the AFC East, and your matched up to play all 4 in the AFC West, then you will play the teams who finished first in the AFC North and South) (2 games)
(iv) You play the 4 teams of a division in the other conference.

(ii) and (iv) work on rotation each year. Actual schedules including dates, and home/away decisions aren't decided until April-ish. The only teams you can safely assume being home on certain dates are the Thanksgiving tie-ins.

Tks for the link helimachopter, but it only says who the (might be) playing, not when and how. I'm looking to book hotels in the next few weeks (due to some NP stays) so I'd be gutted if I plan to leave SF on the Sunday morning on the day they're playing at home. Not so gutted as to plan 2 different versions, one where I stay and one where I don't, though :)

You have no option but to wait unfortunately, for my trip last year I has to wait til end of April to book flights/accommodation.

You can risk booking stuff now but could easily be on the road

Damn, i was hoping the Pats would be playing away in Jacksonville next year, i was hoping to head down for the weekend and try out one of the pools.

The Pats wont be playing the Jaguars till 2018 so a pool in the middle of December London doesn't seem as much fun.
