    hi all,
I'm looking for an automated farming solution to any of your problems. I'm not looking for a solution, I am looking for a job that you think could/should be automated!. If I use any body's idea I will provide feedback through the whole project and also give the project to them when complete. It is for a college project. since I have a back round in farming I thought that I would try to create something that was of benefit to that field (pardon the pun).
    Thanks for the help.

Something that constantly reads a water meter, then sends me a txt msg when a leak occurs / when a lot of extra water used:eek:

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

There are industrial solutions available like the smart meter at http://www.outpostcentral.com/english/GSM-GPRS-Smart-Water-Meter.aspx. . GPS locating for cows would be another. The problem is finding something affordable

That's not a bad idea , a lot of meters are remotely read , so it'd be just a reader sending info to your computer ,and comparing water use figures ...sending out an SMS if more than so many litres per hour /day whatever ...

I think there's a group looking at automated vegetable pickers (funded by the presion farming research fund)
    There's auto steer tractors
    Robot milking machines
    Robot feeders

Hmm how about robot sheep shearing?

I think most tasks that can be automated have been. Refining and reducing the cost of some of them might be a better angle.

How about a robotic herdsman? A remote camera on a robot that would relay back to a PC. Great for someone who had land a long ways away. Simply log onto the camera ( the technology is already there for calving camera) and count your cattle from your computer.:D
