    Hi,

I have an expensive racing bike but I'm too scared to park it in dublin for the day, so I'm looking for a cheap second hand commuter that will be less appealing to steal!

Where are the best places to look? Should I stick with a bike store or try done deal etc.

Should I be able to get something for 100-150 euro

    Anyone see anything lately?

    Thanks

If your destination is anywhere near Drury Street, you could consider leaving it in the bike parking area there, with a good lock or locks on it. I use it all the time, never had a problem there

It's the one opposite Brook's Hotel, scroll to the bottom for details

You could try Bolton Cycles, he has a stock of legitimate second hand bikes. Sound guy too.

Dont be so sure that scumbags wont take an older, less expensive bike either. My ~ 10yr old bike (probably worth 100euro) was stolen earlier this week from Drumcondra. Was chained to a metal rail on a wall, scummers pulled the rail out of the wall.

Everyone tries rothar, so who knows what they have. Also little bikes on aughrim st in d7. Paddy is a sound dude and he keeps a couple bikes I think. I've deleted the app, but you'll find them on fb

Give a thought to building your own from second hand parts. There's a lot of very good value to be had on places like Adverts.ie, etc. Look for clearance items in the local stores/online.

I've been able to build a commuter based on a cheap but very good value mountain bike frame (sunn, aluminium triple-butted), predominantly Shimano parts (mix of deore, SLX, and XT) including hydraulic brakes for about €450.

As well as good fun it'll hone your mechanics skills no end.

Because its much easier to get a cheap MTB frame. I like the idea of building a single speed MTB hack for the shops. A bike with the minimum of gear on it to be messed with and maintained if left in a exposed location. For a commuter though, if going any distance, I'd want gears.
