I have a sky+ hd box which has a lot of recordings on it.
I have signed up to sky with a new sub and got my card the other day. i put card in the box and went to sky website to activate the new card, entering viewing card no., box serial no. etc.. The channels, hd and sports came through alright but i expected that the recordings that were on the box would be avaialble.

This has not been the case as when i go to play them i get a playerror spc 10.

Now if i put in the old sky card, (still in subscription by the way for another month) the recordings play again.

Anyone with a solution to this? Obviously i want to continue with the new card and subscription but keep the old recordings...

You cannot keep old recordings from an old box on a new box and card. Box and recordings made on it is paired to card....Not too sure how you managed to get a new card and box if you were already an existing customer.

its a relations box who cancelled and now living with us for a while.
i was led to believe that old recordings would be viewable once there is a card with a subscription in the box, regardless of whether it is the original card or not?

Who led you to believe this? As they are completely wrong, all recordings are made in a box and paired to your subscription card, they cannot be moved to another box, they can only be moved to another hard drive and returned to the same box.

In order to do this you would need to open the box removing the hard drive, connecting the drive to a pc, thus avoiding the warranty and you need specialized software to clone the recordings to the new drive...however as I already said it will open work if same card is used and within same box...

Only option is to try and backup to a dvd burner or to simply record again as sky repeat things every second day.

    ok, that seems clear enough
sky installer indicated to me that the old recordings made with a different card would be viewable with the new card. Obviously didnt know what he was talking about so.. thanks

    That is not correct.

Recordings are tied to the viewing card only.

They can be transferred to a new box using software such as Ex-Pvr and will work as long as the original card is used. The card does not even need to be paired (except for premium movies+sports channels) with the new box, as long as it still has an active sub the recordings will play.

OP in order to keep your recordings you will need to keep the old card in use, what exactly was the point of taking out a new subscription anyway?
