    http://www.fmscout.com/a-championship-manager-0102-free-download.html

In January 2009, Eidos - the company that holds the rights to the name 'Championship Manager 2001/2002 Season' announced that they would be making the game a legally free download and available only from their website.

In order for the game to run correctly, you will need to burn the downloaded files onto a blank CD/DVD. You may also opt to 'mount' the game; see below for details.

Once you have done that, only then will you be able to download and install the data updates, patches and other tools offered at champman0102.co.uk.

Important: We recommend getting and applying the latest official patch v3.9.68; it should help with errors in modern day computers.

    About Championship Manager 2001/2002

This final update to Championship Manager 3 series was, and still is, one of the most popular editions to date. It was also the first title to make a short trip onto console.

A vastly-improved match engine, commentary and computer manager intelligence was added in addition to a new scouting feature giving the ability to get in-depth analysis on your opposition including their key players and team tactics throughout the season. CM 01/02 also built on the previous games realism, implementing the new EU-regulated transfer system, introduced in real world football in September 2001.

It also featured an attribute masking mode, whereby players could only see information about footballers he or she would realistically know about. So in order to find complete sets of stats about other potential stars, a manager would need to scout that player, team or region and when detailed profiles and histories for more than 100,000 players, managers, and coaches are included, that makes for an immense search.

Having found this already a while back, I feel I must warn people of its addictiveness.

The amount of times I'm after installing it, and then uninstalling it again a few week later, simply because it's consumes your life is ridiculous.

Great game though, and great patches and data updates.

The link says the game starts in the '08 season, is that correct, or can you download a patch to update it more recently?

Yeah, they release patches every so often. Usually every September, and March.

The only thing though is that things like the Champions League still has the older two group stages format, along with a couple of other things that are generally to be expected from such an old game.

You can, of course, download the "Tapani" patch, which includes a lot more experimental changes like the names and formats of different competitions. However, only certain data updates work with this one meaning the most recent one still probably has Torres playing for Liverpool etc. Also, this patch can apparently be relatively unstable, although tbh, I've never encountered much of a problem with it.

I'll second the addictiveness warning, I've actually done a 24 hr+ stint and the pc crashed before I did, ridiculous, I know but it's so consuming. Eventually I had to get family members to hide the cd. Then I found it....played it again....... And then destroyed it. I have a family of my own now..............

I reckon it's because it's so fast moving compared to the recent FM games (not that I've played any of them!). I'd say in that 24 hour stint you probably covered about 10 seasons, minimum!

You're always saying to yourself, "Just one more game", and before you know it you're 5/6 games away from the end of the season so and hence you think "Sure, I might as well finish the season off". Then you get to the close season and you just want to buy/sell players. Then the new season comes around and you're like, "Era, I'll just play two more games to see how my new players are fitting in". Then you're saying to yourself, "Just one more game"......

Probably the best game I've ever played. Many of my mates play/played it, too.

Completely agree, this game was the prefect balance between detail and speed.. The newer games I find are too detailed you need to be unemployed to get the time to play it. There is sometime brilliant about being to pick up a game a start playing straight off, in general most modern games you need to spend the first few hours configuring the damn game.

Some great memories flooding back of the good times (and the soul crushing, hand in head moment times) this game gave myself over the years. Used to play it with my two brothers and had us disappeared in the computer room for days on end.

Was never the same I found to try and play without the comradarie of others and every time.I think of getting back into the game, have to remind myself that I need to have an extra seven days in the week to do it properly! This is the very definition of making time disappear!

Im still playing 00/01 version. Id like to try this one though especially if my 00/01 cd doesnt work if we buy a new laptop.

Hopefully this wont be my thought, 'Is unhappy at not being able to move laptops.'

The most ridiculous part of 00/01 is playing the World Club Championship group stages, a league match two days later then a final the following day.

Coincidence that this was posted on my birthday? I think not. There is something about the speed of the older versions that is very appealing. going through a season on the latest version just seems to take too long.

You need to do it in compatibility mode. Got it going on Win 8.1 x64 after a bit of jiggling about.

He always plays a 5 when I have him.

D'Alessandro is much better but he had fitness problems the last time I bought him.

Try to get Maxim Tsigalko. He is unbelievable.

The other thing is about the best players who cant last 90 minutes. You have to withdraw them after 70 to rest them. Any way around that?

Anybody know if i download this can i just burn it onto a normal blank cd or what way does it work?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭Beano

When they get an injury, request a physio report. Sometimes, they'll have to undergo surgery to see if they can cure the recurring problem.

Sweet. Thanks OP, I hadn't seen this.

I can't remember if it was in the 01/02 or 99/00 version but I bought an Indonesian player called Kurniawan fairly randomly one day. Every time I restarted with a new team I would always try to get him as he improved hugely to almost max stats, nineteens and twenties everywhere.

I just googled him there and there's a good few other sites referencing him. I wonder was that a deliberate thing or whether it was just a quirk of the game stats\leveling mechanics?

Great memories of this game. Greatest achievement was building a Celtic team that won the Champions League.

Offhand, a few players that were exceptional in this game were Mads Jorgensson, Sixto Peralta, Richie Partridge, Kennedy Bakircioglu.

Also, the ultimate tactic of 4-1-3-2 with 3 attacking midfielders always seemed to work more often than not.

There is an update out pretty soon from champan0102.co.uk (in October)

Been holding out for it prior to starting a game, but reading in here i am thinking an older "retro" game might be fun.

I think the game benefitted from the lack of "internet scouting" that we see today

The exact same problem i am having. I'm going to try it with an XP virtual machine tonight to see if that will work.

Samuel Eto'o is a must buy.

He had 35 assists one season.

Similar problem that I had. I had tried extracting the ISO and running the install directly which I think buggered something. A reboot sorted me out. Working perfectly now
