    Hi,
I am a new boardsie and new to economics - so I have a question ...
Can Eircom be considered a (former state owned) monopoly for fixed line telephone services in Ireland?
And the mobile telephone market an oligopoly?
    Thanks!
    N...

Eircom is not a monopoly as other services providers are offered on the market- UPC. Iarnród Éireann would be an example of monopoly in Ireland

The mobile market in ireland however is Oligopoly .

Id say the OP is correct. The ownership of the fixed line infrastructure would be a monopoly. However are the monopoly rents skewed by Government intervention or policy?
Other examples could be ESB networks.
