    Hi guys,

just want to know how much it would cost to replace an Alternator for a 1998 VW Golf MK4 1.4 litre. A whining sound has started and im sure its on its way out.

any help and suggestions would be great.

Doubly amusing given the OP is named after a company that manufactures navigation aides.

OP the cost should be whatever you are willing to pay and whatever the seller is willing to sell it for. There should be an offer, acceptance and consideration. :pac:

A reconditioned alternator would set you back no more than 130 notes. This includes replacement bearings, brush set and voltage regulators. Obviously without looking at your own it is hard to say what exactly the issue is, but it would be a shame to get rid of a perfectly salvageable unit if, say it were simply an axle bearing that requires replacement. Factor in 40 euro labour to have it removed and reinstalled also.
