Good evening all . I am involved with a few different clubs , sports , recreation etc , just wondering what the legalities of a public gathering are? I'd like to get a bunch of us together for a chin wag , we'd be most likely to gather in a public car park , kinda like the Cars and Coffee gatherings . I just don't want any issues with insurance etc . I'd be thinking maybe 20-30 people. But if things go well , we might have larger meet ups.

If it is an event likely to attract more than 5000 you need a licence from the planning authority. Must apply well in advance ( See Part 16 of the current Planning Regs.

There will be conditions re traffic management, stewarding, PL insurance etc.

afaik no other requirement for under 5000, altho PL insurance is always advisable

Some sort of house that was public would be ideal for this sort of thing, like a public house or Pub for short. Sarcasm aside OP contact a local venue or two (hotels if children are going to be there) they will usually be happy to have you.
