and when challenged by one of them, his reaction was to slam on the brakes while 10-15 people were standing downstairs. Then he pulls the bus over and calls the Gardai to remove one of the objectors, claiming that he 'felt threatened'.

Joe Duffy featured the incident today, he spent five minutes talking to a guy who was on the bus and who said that several passengers said they saw the driver on Facebook while driving the bus.

The passenger mentioned phoning Bus Eireann headquarters though from the description (commuters and school kids, people standing 'on the lower deck') it sounds more like a DB service??

Listen or download it from here (5 mins 22 secs) ...Tuesday October 7th 'Bus Eireann incident'....

There are DD's in Galway, and also Cork I think.

Bus Eireann also use double deckers in Dublin and Waterford for their regional buses.

Some expressway buses in Bus Eireann are also double decker as well.

Sorry, meant to say that the caller to Joe D. mentioned the Finglas Road so it's a Dublin service either way.

Wonderful and the same driver was back at work today.

I have witnessed texting by Bus Eireann drivers in the past but not Facebook. I assume the spineless managers at his depot didn't demand his mobile pending an enquiry.

I was listening to the show and it sounded like the sudden braking was as a result of the driver being distracted by Facebook and then a passenger told him they were making a complaint about him using his phone and being on Facebook so he pulled the bus over and refused to move unless the passenger left the bus as he felt threatened. As far as I could make out the driver called the Gardai.

Hopefully passengers who witnessed the driver using his phone will get in touch with the Gardai and Bus Éireann instead of talking to Joe!

Some of the Bus Éireann services are operated by double deck buses which are rated to carry standees, these operate occasionally on the 126 and 109 but are mostly used on the 103/105 services.
