Ethiad or Emirates

    Hi all
Am lucky enough to be getting a prezzie of a ticket to Australia for a trip in January. As I wont be going for very long, I want to fly as directly as possible so I have narrowed my choices to flying with Ethiad or Emirates. I have flown the route before with Ethiad and was happy with the flight and service but have read a couple of negative reviews lately. I have never flown with Emirates.

Anyone have any preference or tips??

    Thanks

A niece of mine has done Oz with both and says that Etihad is a tad better, not by much mind. In some cases the potential traveller might even decide which airline based on the duty-free shopping in Abu Dhabi v. Dubai.

I've flown with both relatively recently. Etihad feels a bit more spacious in economy on the Dublin Abu Dhabi leg. Emirates is definitely cramped from Dublin to Dubai. On the other hand, if you're on the Emirates A380 for the next leg, it's way better than anything Etihad has.

Dubai airport is streets ahead of Abu Dhabi if that's an issue.

Thanks folks. Shopping on the way not big priority - bag will be pre-loaded with requests from "home". I'm inclined to try Emirates since I flew Ethiad last time.

Etihad is also introducing A380s on its Sydney and Melbourne routes, but that won't be until mid-late 2015 from what I've read, so no use to the OP. Interesting to note for future trips though.

They will be using the A380 on the LHR-AUH route in January and then mid 2015 will be using another one on the AUH-SYD route , i didnt hear anything about using it on the Melbourne route id say an American city will be next rather than another Australian one.

Sorry to hijack the thread, is a 1hour, 45 minute stopover at Abu Dhabi airport doable if both flights are with Etihad? I'm flying to Bangalore and want to avoid a long wait at either Dubai or Abu Dhabi

Easily, I had a 1 hour stopover time in Abu Dhabi between Etihad and Air Berlin on a codeshare.

You might even have time to grab some Duty free :P

    +1. It's a very compact airport.

Its very doable if the plane is on time leaving Dublin, today an Etihad flight was delayed 4 hours leaving so if that was to happen to you then you would miss your connecting flight.

There's not much you can do about a four hour delay. I'm certainly not adding an extra four hours to a journey just to be safe.
