Bleeding Fiat Punto clutch

Hi Lads, I've come across a strange one...

Just finished replacing the clutch master on my sisters car and went to bleed the system. However I got stumped when I saw the bleed nipple, there were no flats on it that you could get a spanner on to open it. I'm fairly sure they weren't rounded off just that it was made without any flats if that makes sence. I finally gave up and went and read the Haynes manual but it described a normal bleed nipple that you can open with a spanner...

Has anyone come across a nipple like this before? What can I do?

Any and all help much appreciated :)

Not a good one! Here's the best I can do. It's got it's little rubber hat removed in the pic. It's just where the line goes into the slave cylinder under the battery tray.

I think some of these had a plastic bleed nipple.
The feed hose is held in by a clip, which you need to release.
You then pull out the feed hose slightly and it should bleed itself out through the bleed nipple.
Then just push back in the hose and replace the clip.

This is assuming yours is the plastic type.

edit; edited to include small change to bleed method.

The item circled below in the bleed nipple. If you can't get a spanner onto it, remove the three bots securing the master cylinder to the top of the gearbox and lift it out with the hose still attached, attach a vice grips / mole grips to the nipple, and use that to slaken it off. If the flats are rounded then you'll be as well to replace the existing nipple with a new one before you start bleeding. Also, replace the cylinder back into its correct location on the gearbox and bolt it up before you commence bleeding. ;)

    No you don't.
You pull up the clip (at the edge of your circle) and pull the hose out slightly.
If you click on the link I posted you can see exactly how it's supposed to be done.
This allows fluid, and air to escape through the bleed nipple.

If you try to loosen the nipple with a vice-grips it will just snap.

That clip is for holding the line on though. I probably could bleed it through there too… I'm 99% sure that clip has nothing to do with the nipple.

The hose connection goes under the nipple. When the hose is pulled out slightly it unblocks the bottom of the nipple to allow it to bleed. That is the way Fiat designed this cylinder.
The fluid will bleed through the nipple, not the hose.
Google it if you like, but this is the way it's meant to be done.

I'll have a look again tomorrow then. That's not how the Haynes manual describes it though! (I know manuals are't always right!)

Clutch slave, mk2. That "nipple" doesn't open, don't touch it!!!

Pull out the pipe, let the fluid out till no more air bubbles are present. Insert pipe.

    Job done ;)

One more edit please, it's a slave cylinder not a master cylinder. Slip the pipe back and it will bleed in a flash.

Well actually I was just on my way back here to say that what you said was 100% correct! More correct than him even. Thanks and sorry for doubting you :)

My only reason for trusting him is that he is a friend in real life and I know first hand that he is experienced with fiats. The only reason I thanked his post is that I couldn't have been arsed actually writing a reply!!!

Sorry that you feel put out.

It's not 100% because I had very little brake fluid so couldn't bleed it fully. It's my sisters car and she's flat broke at the moment so I think I'll be lucky to get the money for the master cylinder never mind the fluid  It's perfectly drivable again though so it'll do!
