Is it just me or is Today FM become a Government Broadcast channel?

Every ad break there are warnings to pay your TV license, M50 toll, Water Charges, changes to the Penalty Point system etc.

    It's called advertising

Everyone one of those ads would have been sold at a commercial rate to the state agency in question.

Anyway, its not like those can be classed simply as "Government". Water charges would be Irish Water, a semi-state; tolls may be Beteire Flow (private contractor) or the NRA - not sure which; TV licence would be An Post - semi-state (acting as a private contractor in this case); points are the RSA. So one or two direct Government bodies.

M50 toll is privately owned - eflow who are French.

Tut Tut...eflow do not own the M50. They merely operate in the collection of fees. The M50 was actually bought by the tax payer a number of years ago.

M50 has been paid for several times over. The toll remains for "traffic management" purposes

Build a road to alleviate congestion on primary routes and then put a toll on it to force people back onto the primary routes. Sounds like the type of logic you only get in Ireland but it's rife across Europe.

The M50 was built to to alleviate congestion on secondary routes.

It is a legal fiction to take semi state bodies as any other than entities controlled by the state. They are established to allow plausible deniability for the government as they pursue the dual mandate of collecting taxes and providing jobs for the boys and girls at board level of government supporters.

    Yeah!

What has ANY of this to do with Today FM?

Isn't it obvious? OP is suggesting that Today FM is a semi state body.

here is an interesting one from todays today fm/ newstalk news.

a report says that 1 out of 5 of leaving cert results appeals results in an upgrade. this apparently is good, it means that you should appeal, its all great.

but it isnt, 3/5 resulted in their grades being downgraded.

but that wasnt the headline. surely even reading it out the newscasters must have said to their bosses "this is spin" but it was read out at 7.30, 8.00, 8.30, 9.00.....

dont you have to pay for the appeal, and only get a refund if it is successfull? maybe i am being a cynic.

Spin on behalf of who ? The state in order to stop kids getting into college ? Just poor editorialising or writing I'd say.

    .

No. Three - out of all of them - had their grades downgraded.

    The rest stayed the same.

    You are wildly misinterpreting here.

I'd actually be willing to lay money that if you get a recording of it, it'll be them saying 3 - not 3 out of 5.

gambling is immoral and you know that a very serious and extreme comment to make.

I regard messageboards as being like pub talk. imagine having this conversation in the pub and your mate, or indeed some random says that gambling comment. There would be a silence and everyone would go back to chatting about the match. there may be a shudder down some spines.

you know, i could have misheard it, but I'm not taking it so personal as to lay money on it, nor get a recording.
