Well Water Treatment

    Hello folks,

I would be much obliged if anybody would be able to help me about water treatment.

The background is that we bored a well about eight months ago (major problems with the old shallow well) and have high levels of Iron and Manganese- Iron is 7 times the limit and Manganese is about 18 times the limit. The water runs totally clear as the iron and manganese are dissolved, has a PH of 7 and doesn't really have any strong odour.

We have rang various companies regarding what filters to install but they all have allegiances to particular companies/brands and so it is very hard to find independent advice on what would work best. So far we have been recommended a Filox Filter, an Ecomix Filter, a Reverse Osmosis Filter and now a Cyrstal Right Filter.

I have spent weeks googling water treatment but am not really much the wiser for it! I think that a Crystal Right or Ecomix Filter is probably most suited to our water but if anyone could answer some questions I would be ever so grateful.

So, Does anyone know which filter is actually best suited for our water?
Alot of the installers don't seem to be able to tell me how many litres each filter processes per hour and so do we need a large storage tank for the filtered water? (There will be 4 people living in the house)
Should we fit an aerator to aid the removal of the iron?
Should we fit an analogue or digital valve on the filter?

Any help at all would be really appreciated as we have just moved out from a house in an estate to our lovely old farmhouse and are finding we have a lot to learn!
