Where is it leaking? It's most likely the gland nut needs a tiny pinch.
    Can you post a pic?

If it's plastic pipe then it can be squeezed off with a pipe clamp to replace valve.

If its black Hydrodare (spelt wrong I'm sure) You can clamp it. There is a special clamp you can for around €30. I'f you replace the valve, replace it with a leaver ball valve. I've never seen one leak, they never seize or get stuck & you can shut the water off in 2 seconds.

Out of curiosity, why can you not turn off the mains outside?

When the first people built on a back kitchen the move the ball cock down the middle of the back yard is about 4 ft down and what I can see of it it looks sad if the pipe around it collapsed and the the valve is now on its side i would have to dig up the whole lot of it just to get to it

Any good plumbing trade counter. I'm pretty sure I can put money on it that you don't have wavin pipe on your mains water. The mains pressure would be too great for a wavin join. I'm pretty sure it is hydrodare
