As for the insurance, your best bet is to ring around and find the best quote for YOU. My details will be different from yours, and will mean the premiums will differ. That being said, Britton have been good for learner drivers I have known in the last few years.

As for the car...that's a whole other kettle of fish. How much money do you have for the car? What do you want out of a car? (Will a Micra do, or do you want something bigger). And lastly, are you sure you would even use a car, seeing that you are not legally entitled to drive it unless supervised?

The reason I ask that last question, is that after the purchase price of the car, tax and insurance, you're going to be a good few thousand down. It may not make sense if the car will just be sitting idle.

Hi thanks for the reply Im checking a few different insurers just getting quotes of cars I've seen on carzone, the likes of chill insurance wont even quote me because im a learner driver. Im willing to spend up to 5000 I might have to get finance as I would have gotten a banger if it wasn't for my little girl. Micras are nice and cheap but have a very small boot. Any ideas of a nice 4 door car that are cheap on tax and petrol ? I can apply for my full licence in January but my instructor says I need more practice that it shows im not driving in between lessons. I was thinking the same think that I didn't want to leave the car lying there but I think I would have to be going out and get practice before my test so it would make more sense , I wouldn't drive on my own as I don't have the confidence.

You're going to have to forget a lot of the online quotes, as they shy away from quoting high risk drivers such as learners. Try Britton, and CALL insurance companies directly. Aviva, Allianz, AIG, first Ireland, FBD, AA, Zurich to name but a few.

Find the best quote, and take notes on the cover the offer, third part fire and theft? Or Fully Comp? Break down assistance? Windscreen cover?

A petrol Ford Focus 1.4 liter petrol would be a decent choice. Reliable, decent sized boot, and 5 seats.

Yeah calling them is so much better theres so many places that do car insurance its actually mind boggling. The best quote I got so far was with boxymo for 1500 for a 1.2 polo and 1700 for an opel astra 1.4 and that was fully comprehensive with a tracking device on your car if it gets stolen and windscreen cover, other places are quoting over 2 grand because I am high risk.

As a 30 years old learner driver, I too got a good price with Boxymo (around 1000€ for a 1.4 Rover Streetwise) but many bad reviews for this company so I think I'll sty away from them: https://ie.trustpilot.com/review/www.boxymo.ie

If you go or have gone for lessons with a partner driver (ie. <SNIP> , you can get a good discount with http://www.firstireland.ie/ I had a quote the other day for 1100€ for third party/fire & theft and I am 30 years old driver with a provisionary license and never insured/named driver/etc. Everyone else was quoting me around 1900/2000€

Mod: PLEASE DO NOT LINK TO DRIVING SCHOOLS. LOTS OF DRIVING SCHOOLS CAN OFFER THE SAME DEAL THROUGH FIRST IRELAND
