Higher gas bill for hot water when the timer is set the same?

I've been living in an apartment for just over two months and it uses a gas boiler to heat water. Each month I get a bill from the management company which includes a standing charge which is always the same and an amount due for heating and hot water.

So far I have only been heating water and I have it set to come on for ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes in the evening. That gives me a constant supply of hot water. I did this for the month of August and the bill (minus the standing charge) was 18 euro. Just got this months bill and its gone up from 18 to 26 euro.

That's an increase of 44% in what I assume is gas usage when my timer has been set the exact same. My immediate worry is if there is anything wrong with the gas boiler, like a leak or something which could cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

Myself and my partner have also been wondering if the boiler sounded noisier at the moment when its on and that was before we got the latest bill. I have no clue about this sort of stuff but does it sound like anything to be worried about or even like I may have a boiler problem?
