I ordered a bag off ebay. It said the item location was London, but it turned out to be a seller from China. When the bag arrived it was very faulty and not fit for purpose. I told the seller I wanted a refund and for them to have the bag collected at their own expense. They offered me £5 to keep it. I said no, I want a full refund or I'll leave negative feedback. I opened an ebay case. The seller said, ok don't leave negative feedback, you don't have to send the bag back and we'll give you a full refund if you agree to cancel the transaction. I agreed to the cancel transaction request, which seems to have closed the case. Then the seller gave me only a £5 refund. I want the rest of my money but the ebay case is closed and I can't re-open it. Of course I can threaten the seller with negative feedback but if that doesn't work what can I do?

Can you open a ticket via Paypal or is it linked to Ebay.

Email and say you want full refund within 24h or you will leave negative feedback, they might not care or they might give you the refund after you get the refund do leave negative feedback as tehy are scamming people.

That's exactly what I've said to them, but I said it before and they still took a week to refund me just the £5. I tried to go via paypal now but it won't let me. Nobody ever use this seller - 2010betterelectronics

I'm afraid you made the mistake of going outside ebays resolution process. Once you start that process it is best to stick with it as you cant restart it once you stop. You obviously didnt know this but the seller did which is why he made that offer. He knew that once you closed the case there would be nothing more you could do so he took advantage of it. Obviously you should leave very negative feedback but if the amount is in any way substantial you could pursue a chargeback through your credit card company. Bear in mind that if you do this then paypal will probably close your account.

But I had no idea that accepting to cancel the transaction meant the case would be closed! A warning should have come up - it should have said this will close the case, are you sure? I would never have done it. I have had it with the seller now. I have warned them many times to refund me or get a negative. They keep replying "Hello dear friend, I hope you are having a nice time with your family. I am a just seller, I will sort the problem out for you. Just leave me a positive feedback first." Well I'm not falling for that one now! If I gave them a positive I'd never see my money again. It looks like I won't see it again anyway so I may as well leave them a negative. It says the return process is still open and that I can get ebay involved on the 9th - does anyone know if this will still work as the case is closed?

DO NOT leave them positive feedback. once you done that you cannot change it. Not sure on the return but a return to china is rarely to your benefit.

Always insist on a refund first and then agree to cancel the transaction. The seller did trick you and other than negative feedback, there is little you can do. Do not go overboard on the feedback ie calling them fraudsters as that is a sure way for ebay to remove the feedback and that helps no one

Do investigate the possibility of a chargeback with your credit card company though. It might be worth your while.

Still no refund. I'm going to leave negative feedback but it's hard to put everything I have to say in the small space allowed, and in a way that stays within the rules so they can't get it removed. Can someone help? I want to say that the item was dreadful quality, not fit for purpose, and the seller promised a full refund, tricked me into closing the case, messed me around for a week and then swindled me by not giving a refund.

    Ring them....

If you ring and explain the situation to EBay they may chase the refund on your behalf, they are very good to deal with (especially over the phone) I have found....

I already tried on live chat. They said the case is closed, so no.

'Awful seller of poor quality goods, refused to refund for faulty item'

That's good, I could add more in the follow up. I want people to know that they lied and messed me around.

Well I decided to phone ebay about it after all. They said they will email the seller and tell them to give me a refund or risk suspension. The ebay person could see in my messages that the seller promised me a full refund. I explained that the seller has been blackmailing me for positive feedback and the ebay person tried to get a promise from me that I'd leave them good feedback! I said no and he said, alright well I can't make you do that.

Something a bit confusing has happened. I had sent a request for the refund to the seller through paypal and I've sent them loads of paypal reminders every day. Today the money has been credited to my paypal account, finally. But the paypal reminder still says "X hasn't paid yet." I don't understand what's going on, whether the money is safely mine now.

Also I still want to leave negative for the seller. If I do is there any danger of the paypal refund being credited back to them if they complain?

I can't leave them a negative now! The item has completely disappeared from my ebay summary!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,577 ✭✭✭StormWarrior

OK I found the item in another part of me ebay and left feedback. This is what I wrote:

    awful quality,feedback extortion,messed me around,had 2 get ebay involved,AVOID!

I can see that they always respond to negative feedback trying to make themselves look innocent so when they reply to mine I'll follow it up. I must say it gave me great pleasure to leave negative for them. They truly deserved it. If they'd just done the decent thing and refunded me from the start they wouldn't have the negative now.

Looks like ebay cancelled the listing and triggered an automatic refund. Is the seller still a registered user?

Yes sadly but I think the seller refunded it themselves after the threat of suspension. I've just seen that they sent me a message saying that they refunded it. Weirdly, they also left me good feedback suddenly. Anyway all of their messages were horrible, threats and extortion coated with sickly-sweet phrases like, "dear friend" and "hope you have a nice time with your family".

contact EBAY and explain the situation that they agreed to a full refund but it did not materialise

Did ebay say why they removed it? I would ask them.

I would guess it was for using 'extortion' in the feedback

    its getting beyond a joke

Never be afraid of leaving negative feedback. In fact, that's the first thing you should do. The seller can request you to revise feedback. You're putting ball in their court by leaving negative feedback.
However, if ebay take sides with the seller, they will remove your negative feedback. They have interesting 'defect removal' policy http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/defect-removal.html?fb=true

I bought replacement smartphone screen off ebay, but the seller sent me a broken item. But the way seller made it sound was as if I am trying to send back my broken screen. So ebay took sides with the seller. I left negative feedback, but it got removed because of the above policy! So there is no way of warning other ebayers of this scam seller! The seller is yall-uk.
