Hi, I know there has been other threads on this but they are over a year old. I have been playing golf for a few years now. High handicap. Been playing well then bad for a few weeks then back to good, I need to get more consistent and confident in my set up and swing etc. Can anyone recommend a good golf instructor, tried and tested preferably.

    Hi,
Would recommend Anthony Martin in the Grange Kinsealy or Krishna Padayachee who works out of Hollywood lakes and maybe the Ward driving range.

    Regards Michael.

Nigel Howley Balbriggan Golf Club. Have worked with him over the years. Very good knowledge of the game and also has an indoor swing room for video analysis.

+1, great instructor, and the video setup is great for seeing where you are going wrong.

John Kelly in St Margarets. Very very good. Often referenced on the OTB Podcast.

+1 for Anthony Martin. You'll have a good laugh while getting a great lesson. If he could fix my slice he should get most to single digits.

    I've been to a few.

All the lads and Deirdre Judge in Grange driving range are good - sound too.

Deirdre is the best I've come across - she just can change the pace from high end technical stuff - to simple things for my little head.

John Kelly is top level stuff - I found it a bit intimidating , but well worth seeing him - just to see him hit balls - he does that a bit. Sound lad. John can be good on the mental stuff and give you a good kick in the arse when you need it.

No matter what - I think it comes down to personality. Not all types will suit all. Nobody will suit me :D:P:o

A pro above told me I was extreme disconnection (lol - straight talk) . So has been a battle to get from that to where I am now - and has taken in total 15 lessons. This was unusual - about 5 is right for most.

The reality with lessons - is you need to leave good gaps - 2 weeks at least , and go to the range 4 or 5 time between lessons - If you want to do it right. Some lads do no work after lesson - you are honestly wasting your money and time if you do not put work in.

Another one of the pros I went to told me - so many lads come in and say change nothing (lol).

You can't go wrong in The Kinsealy Grange.

The big problem with a range - it lacks a bit of intimacy - you do get frustrated and another lad 6 feet away is not ideal as you feel like crying (lol)

Also - a big problem with Northside (is crime and drugs - jaysus joke) There is no real top level short game area with lessons - I have found - I mean even near GUI national level - big gap in the market.

Lesson went very well and I'd highly recommend Anthony for anyone looking for some honesty.

He knows what he's talking about and more importantly he knows how to get this across to his students.

I really needed to work on a slice I was hitting but he insisted on not trying to fix the slice but instead teaching me how to hit the basics a proper draw shot.

By the end of the 30 mins all we'd worked on was my back swing and he had me hitting the ball straight.

He said at the next lesson we'd work on the hands and turning the ball from right to left to create the draw.

He broke all the stages down very well and made it very simple to follow the instructions.

I'll keep updating here as I continue with the lessons and I'd recommend him to anyone wanting to improve their game.
